But I don't hear anyone saying the game has passed Nick Saban by. Alabama uses the same pro style offense, and you can't aurgue with their (and our success)over the last 5 years.

I would more likely agree with the point that we are trying to run a pro style offense with "dual threat style" QBs. We would be better off changing our offense to match the QB personel we have - but, keep in mind, Harris stated after the game that he loved the game plan we had going in Saturday night, and he said he just failed to execute. I take his word for it.

I think Skip Bertman won a national championship a couple of years after it had been publicly declared that "the game had passed him by"

the correct answer, simply, is that the segment of fans that want to run the pass happy spread office think it's the "modern" offense and any coach that doesn't run it is just out of date.

never mind the facts. they do not listen to them. it's their way or the highway. they were raised on xbox video football and that is all they want to see.

Have you seen Bama play this year. There offense is drifting further away from a pro-style offense. Kiffen was hired b/c he knew he didn't have a pro-style guy at the time.

Nicky even said he's been wanting his OC's to open the offense up for years now.

Because Les is sticking to an offensive scheme that not many teams run any more. The game is changing to more of a spread/read option style of offense. Notice I said CHANGING - not HAS CHANGED.

In order to play the kind of game Les wants to pay, you have to be able to establish the run and stop the other team's running game. I would say that so far this year, the results have proven this to be a flawed strategy at best.

Les is trying to pound the square peg into the round hole by making a team that looks better personnel wise for the spread to run his "3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense. I just don't see that our staff is adjusting their scheme or game plans to suit the players we have. This refusal to change is what is giving the impression that the game is passing Les by.

Old School answer from an old school guy.

THE reason: You recruited 2 QB's who ran an offense in high school that had them in shot gun all game. You then force them to play under center 80% of game. I loved last years offense, b/c its what Mett's done his whole career. These guys are not that type of QB so either don't recruit them or run an offense that lends itself to their skill set.

Stopped reading after this. Bama got a new oc this year and their playbook is more of a spread hybrid than a prostyle. I don't see saban calling many I form plays. He's adapted this year not only to 2014 style of offenses but to his inexperienced qb too. Miles is stubborn as shite and just lacks creativity overall

Even before this year they ran a single back formation - no FB

I am not sticking up for him. I just think people always are quick to blame the coach or the scheme. But, logic tells me we had huge success on offense last year and freshman at every key position this year....maybe its an experience issue. I know that is not what you want to hear, but makes a lot more sense given the facts.

The difference is, Alabama actually passes the ball. They don't wait until they are down by 17 points to start passing.

Of course he did. Harris is a real man and wants to do what he can to improve, any good player thinks the same way....but his jackass of a coach refused to let him do anything until we were down by 3 scores.

I agree with this. But, you can't say they are better off now then they were when they were runnig true pro style.
