Why didn't Jacoby Stevens play on Saturday?

I thought he was one of our top 5 recruits from last class. I know he moved to offense but I figured he would be a great special teams player. Any ideas?

We definitely need one or two more threads about this. Beyond that, I don't have any ideas that will be helpful.

This has already been discussed on the other Jacoby Stevens thread. Check the board before you start another thread.

He's had 1 month to learn the offensive playbook. Give the kid some time

I am still trying to figure this one out!

We played 17 true or red shirt freshman on Saturday and let that sink in for a minute as to what the question was. Jacoby Stevens was one of the heralded signees in this year's freshman class and he was a 5-star recruit. So the question posed is actually an excellent question. Considering who he was as a recruit and how highly he was ranked It makes absolutely no sense why Jacoby didn't see a snap on Saturday and 17 other true freshman or redshirt freshman did.

This is obviously all speculation but I would be will to bet there is something behind the scenes that we don't know about that kept him from playing. What it could be is too numerous to speculate but I would bet a ton that I am right.

Yep that could be the excuse, but somehow I doubt that. You have to look at the entire picture before you make conclusions. He was the #1 rated safety in high school last year. He was ranked #18 in the country out of all positions. LSU didn't have any strong incumbents at safety so both spots were up for the taking. Delpit who was lower ranked than Stevens started on Saturday. The tea leaves are saying there is a story behind the scenes and the public doesn't know it yet.

If the recruiting services and our coaches were correct in his status as #1 safety in the class and #18 player overall, and if you are playing freshman he is one of the ones you want to play if you got it right on his assessment.

I guess what I am saying is I don't buy it with them switching him to offense and he didn't see a snap in a 27-0 blowout when 17 other freshman did. Yeah something stinks with what is going on with Jacoby that is for sure.

They play different positions. Delpit starting doesn't mean jack shite when it comes to Stevens.

So you are making these assumptions based on 1 game of his freshman season?

Two true freshmen played at WR last Saturday night and I think Jacoby Stevens had already been moved to WR (July 31st) before Justin Jefferson signed with the recruiting class (August 2nd).

Best players will play. Period. High school star ratings don't matter.

If he's good enough and reliable, he'll play.

Do the tea leaves also talk about how Delpit was an EE and Stevens recently switched positions?

Jefferson has been above Stevens on the depth chart all fall, so why wouldn't Jefferson see playing time over Stevens?

Orgeron has said that this staff places a high priority on receivers who catch the ball over athletic ability, so maybe Stevens needs to work on his hands and concentration?

There are legitimate, footall reasons why Jefferson played over Stevens, that don't involve elaborate conspiracy theories.
