Why did the first base coach have the runner at first go with one outs?

And when it was a clear fly out why did he commit to second? What a bizarre ending to a terrible series by both teams

Was it a hit and run?

You think the first base coach had him go?

The coach isn’t going to launch anyone under the bus, but either the coach or pinch runner fricked up terribly. It’s really just speculation but I’m going to assume the pinch runner got carried away and was tone deaf. I don’t think a volunteer city league coach would recommend sending the runner

It was a hit and run. It’s up to the runner to pay attention to where the ball goes off the bat. Fundamentals seem to be lacking on several occasions this year. Crews of all people ran right into a tag when he should have stopped to give the guy running to first more time.

It’s crazy to me that fundamentals are lacking because that was the reason they were so good early on in the year.

Its not a hit and run, its a straight steal with the confidence that thompson is gonna put the bat on the ball. The issue there isnt with the call, its with our pinch runner not realizing where he is and backing up to about halfway when the ball is caught

Hoping it was a missed sign but seems like it was a hit & run

2B deaked the runner so he froze. A freshman who never plays should have never been in that situation

Haven’t seen enough people complain about Nippolt trying to bunt on a clear ball 4 that was inches above the plate and leading to his eventually out.

First base coaches just hold gear. They don’t send runners. If the runner has to wait for a coach to tell him what to do at that level, then geez.

The players need to review the last two weekends for sure. Auburn is hot right now so I’ll give that a pass but this weekend and next weekend was an sec regular season championship on a platter.

I would, but id rather criticize the coach for pulling the 5th year senior team leader who wears number 8, who gets on base 45% of the time for a guy who rarely plays all to get a bunt down so that we have to bat .500 between morgan and milazzo to win the game.

That’s not the first base coach’s call. It’s the runner’s.

It appeared they had a ‘hit and run’ on.

Why wouldn’t you put Stevenson in to run who is a more veteran player? It’s like when Jay was presented with an option he chose the wrong one all weekend.

The amount of people here asking if it was a hit and run with a 3-2 count tells you how little the rant knows about baseball. You don’t hit and run with a 3-2 count. A hit and run essentially tells the hitter they must swing, no matter where the ball is pitched. Given the count is 3-2 and a ball draws a walk this wasn’t a hit and run but a straight steal and the batter thought it was a strike and swung.

I agree. Aside from the obvious pitching problems, this was a game losing mistake.

It was a straight steal on s 3-2 count.
If it’s a strike the batter swings. If it’s a ball the batter takes and it’s a walk.

I don’t believe Stevenson made the 27 man roster.

It’s called a run and hit.

It’s basically a straight steal and the batter is either putting the ball in play or taking ball four. The idea is to stay out of the ground ball double play and it is one of the options a coach has in that situation that makes sense.

The call backfired but that doesn’t make it a wrong call.
