Very simple actually. LSU's tight ends have to learn to block first because LSU is a run first team. If they don't block they won't get in the game. The ones that can block may not necessarily be your best recieving option. It's weird to say but it is an attempt to not be predictable by personnel. The funny part is that every other position on the field they are predictable by personnel.

Chase Clement was a real good tight end , but didn't get the ball enough. Went to the N Y Giants I believe

Big TEs who are blockers is just part of a pro-style offense. We have a big TE and a full back, that's what makes us pro-style instead of spread. Spread O has a receiving TE and a half back in place of fullback. Big TEs are there to support the run game. When Gordon got hurt, we were forced to use Jeter, who is more of a lighter, route running TE. We used this to our advantage in the Texas bowl, we actually threw to him a few times.

Because they can't get open, and when they do, it's a 50-50 shot that it will be a drop. Had a former LSU QB say throwing to TE is overrated

Desean is a bad blocker. TE's don't get reps with Les Miles if they are bad blockers.

Throwing to the TE more and blitzing more are probably the top 2 coaching recommendations by football fans

Also, what routes to TE usually run? Seems and flats. Those are routes that get jumped and picked off more than streaks and fades... Which is why we don't like throwing them.

I want to know why we even have a TE coach when our biggest issue has been QB play. Get rid of the TE coach and hire a QB coach

In hight school, the most unused portion of the field is the middle behind the linebackers! Esp. in cover 2! When I was an offensive co-ordinator my tight end was my leading receiver!

They used them relative to how much LSU passes. Harris almost threw a pic in the endzone throwing to Foster, he needed to put it higher, instead threw it rt into the defenders hand forcing the TE to now become a defender.

Oh and Dickson is the most productive TE in the history of the program. Just another offensive stat owned By Les Miles.
