he makes sense more than most in the past. constantly having injury problems. makes sense to me that he’d wanna try to get his money while he’s relatively healthy. high chance of him getting injured since he gets injured constantly

He would have been drafted in the top 4 rounds if he had good knees.

But I don’t know if he will even pass a physical. He won’t be drafted.

This is a decision that likely ends his playing career.

People are saying its because of his knees. If that’s the case then he probably won’t even make the practice squad. The NFL wants someone they can use and abuse for very little money compared to NFL standards. Why in the BLUE frick would they waste any time or money on a kid with terrible knees? I doubt any team will pay this kid to ride the bench on the practice squad. Hopefully he’s making the right decision for himself but I don’t see it.

just my opinion... all these guys that declare early and not complete a 4 year schooling program, and who declare for the NFL draft, should be made to pay back to the university any scholarship money given to them

This is absurd.

If he is afraid to play now, why would an NFL GM want to draft a player who has shoddy knees ? Why draft a player who only has maybe three years in the league before he can’t walk any more ?

I'm surprised he declared also. He hasn't really made his mark at LSU to be considered a sure fire pick, but then some of these guys have tough home lives and have to leave. I wish him the best!

Certainly he isn’t a first rounder. He may not even be drafted.

Covered all of the bases.

If his knees are as bad as they have been reported...bad enough to justify him making a decision, His chances of making a team are very very low.

So the question is: Does a small chance of becoming a prOfessional player outweigh playing one more year with your teammates...along with whatever residual chances he would have next year.

It’s hard to logically justify this decision. It’s 100x more likely that he’s being fed info from people who don’t know what they are talking about and he’s not wise enough to realize it.

Having said that, he really seems like a good kid. I hope his knees are not as bad as reported and he’s drafted and makes a team. I’ll be pulling for him.

The amount of money he can earn on the practice squad is a lot if damn money to a lot of people out there. For him, it may just be too good to pass up.

They don’t put guys with a short shelf life in a practice squad.

Some of you guys don’t stop to think. Either Alexander is able to contribute now or he’s done (assuming his knees are as bad as people are saying).

if he proves good enough to play in the NFL, a team will use him until his leg falls off

Tough home life so give up an education for a likely 3 year NFL career

Lmao gotta love it

Exactly. They will use the best player available until he is no longer able to help them and then cut him loose.

Remember Anthony Johnson??

This is that again

Johnson had talent, but not enough to get drafted when he pissed hot at the combine. He did catch on and played enough to earn an NFL pension. I would be surprised if Alexander had that type of career.

Johnson made $1.8 million in his NFL career

You know he would be allowed to get another job if football does not work out...or if he chose he could actually go finish the 30hrs of college and then get a job.

I’m a raaaa....tard for saying he’d have less PT due to us actually having depth to keep a rotation going instead of him having to be on the field the whole game? Ed when healthy is one of the best NT in the SEC his strength and explosiveness is unteachable. My comment had more to do with us actually having players to rotate with him which would lead to less snaps

It’s his bum knee that’s advising him. Ed only has so many miles left in the tank with that bad knee. Hope he gets a year or three in the league to make some money before he has to hang it up. I feel bad for him.

Ed was coming on at the end of the year, if he got his head right, dropped 30 lbs, probably coulda played his way into the 3rd round

3rd round average signing bonus is $800,000

Presently he looks like udfa with no guarantees to make any money, practice squad spots are pretty competitive

Financially a terrible decision

If his knees cant give him one good year at lsu, then he is going to make zero dollars playing football anyway

Or...you could come back to school, get an education you may very well need, get everything for free, and try to improve to the level of making guaranteed millions, and not have to hope to latch on to a practice squad.

Nothing is guaranteed. It's risk vs reward.

Worst case, his practice squad dream is still there next season.

No. Worst case is that he gets a career ending injury next year and never makes any money at all. He could also be at risk of losing academic eligibility. Other risks are getting beat out or even simply not improving at all. Then he missed out on at least $130k - likely more. He can pay for his last year of school with that if that's what this is truly about.

Knocking these kids for trying to make money is silly. He doesn't owe anybody anything.
