Seems like with the personnel we have this year, we'd kick arse at a 3-4 defense. MOAR LB's

But I'm sure Chief has something up his sleeve

The rant has been calling for this all offseason.

While we're not overhauling our defensive scheme due to one year personnel, I do think we see more of the mustang package like we saw in the latter half of the A&M game.

I'm think they may bring Beckwith in for sub packages as early as the tcu game at one of the olb spots and have him rush the passer. That's the only reason I see him still at olb.

Why? The mustang removed a linebacker, it was a 4-2-5

Kind of on a site note too, somebody must be really impressing Chavis at MLB for him to move Melvin jones over to offense after just saying he was the best athlete on defense.

I think he's talking about the 3 man front we used against A&M

Will Granier ever be a legit candidate or is he nothing more than a role player/special teams?

He never said he was the best athlete on defense. He is a good athlete for his size but he didn't look as quick or explosive as some of the others in the limited video from practice.

Nobody has seen what Welter can do because he hasn't played in forever. I don't like it either but talking up Louis in here isn't gonna change their mind. I remember last year Tahj Jones got some hype before the academic deal. Hope he can do well. I don't see Kwon sitting for long though.

10-4. Should be needed in multiple games this season.

I will lose it if Welter starts! Too much talent behind him. Just because he knows the defense better than anyone is not a reason for him to start.

When he gets trucked, at least he'll see it coming.

No he didn't, watch the video. He said he may be the best big athlete in the team, and then qualified the statement by saying he was 250 or whatever number he used. That doesn't even mean he is the most athletic linebacker, much less the most athletic defensive player.

You are going around the world to ignore the obvious. Chavis liked Melvin jones a lot. For him to move to offense, IMO, means someone has locked up the MLB spot.

No, I'm just stating a fact about what Chavis said. And in my opinion if Jones looked like he would be an impact player at linebacker they wouldn't have moved him.

Surely you aren't making the argument that Melvin jones moving to offense doesn't speak to how our coaches feel about welter and Louis?

I'm saying it had more to do with how they feel about Jones than anything. He was behind those two when camp started and he was behind them when he moved.

I think not moving Barrow or someone else inside says more about Welter and Louis than anything going on with Jones.

Yep. And in my opinion, it isn't really surprising. I did not expect Jones to play meaningful snaps this year at MLB barring injuries.
