Dr Rockso, you need to know your BR TV history. Channel 9 was indeed channel 28 in its beginning.

look it up.

In those "dark ages", I was in the band in a relatively "poor" seat at the 37 yard line. I had that seat for 4 years. I wish the Tiger Band was treated to better seats than they have today--they deserve it.

And, I was also one of those many Tiger Band members who asked Sid for the night's attendance. Sid was a great part of Tiger Stadium history!

yes sir you are on the money, and Channel 33 didn't come about until 1971, as UHF.

As a kid and until his death, Sid and his wife Barbra were close friends of my parents, Walter and Sue Hill. I use to "spot" LSU football games for my father's radio broadcast with John Ferguson. In those days after each game my folks, the Crokers and all the kids would get behind my Dad's Pontiac staionwagon cause they could lower the "tailgate" and it made the perfect bar. We would talk about the game until the traffic cleared out then my Dad would meet coach Mac at WBRZ later to do his show using tape from the game. There were many nights my Dad and I would not get home until 3 or 4 in the morning depending on the development machine they used in those days.
After they both retired the Crockers and the Hills traveled together and fished together for many years.
It was a great life.

"Tiger Tongue" Sid Crocker, John Ferguson; two names for those of us who grew up listening to LSU games on Sat. nights are legendary. I have very fond memories to laying in bed with a little radio next to my bed hearing crackling and interference in between Mr. Ferguson's play by play. Very sentimental.

Wasn't Mr. Crocker also on "Buckskin Bill"?

Absolutely. He was Senor Puppet, among others.

I remember the band yelling "Hey Sid - are you a turtle?" Maybe somebody from the band will remember (mid-70's?), but I heard once it was related to an old military tradition where the question would be asked loudly in a public place, and you had to answer with a non-family-friendly response, or buy a round for the house.

Yes, that was a 1960s-1970s era question and response. The proper response to the question, "Are you a turtle?" was "You bet your sweet a$$ I am!"

Sometimes, as you mentioned, the audience was just not right for that response!

He did his for me when I was a little kid at an LSU BB game. My dad said when he got to Sid I was in the chair next to him holding the game ball. It was in the Cow Palace when Maravich was playing.

Didn't he get reprimanded by the SEC or NCAA one time for " cheerleading" over the PA system too much during the LSU basketball games? Seems like this was in the early 80's.
