D1 Baseball had Slaughter as the 20th ranked freshman and Smith at 64. LSU had 5 in the top 100.

20 Slaughter
24 Hess
48 Peterson
64 Smith
91 Walker

Smith and Walker way too low.

Detroit was ready to pull the trigger on Smith in the fourth round last year, he turned them down.

If the scouts stick, Detroit will likely still pick him high. That scout was very high on him.

Any idea what he was offered?

Poor Trey Dawson turned down $750k...

This comment has nothing to do with your question, but I thought it was pretty interesting that Slaughter's HS teammate was also a Day 1 freshman starter for UT Longhorns. Pretty impressive squad they had at Ouachita Christian. 2 freshman infielders starting at major D1 programs.

Another one of their HS teammates, Aaron George, is leading San Jac CC with 3 saves. It's a big time JUCO program. I wonder if he's a guy LSU looks at for the future.

I think it can be both. I honestly agree with you here and think they are on the same path and are about equal

Only bad thing is Slaughter will be draft eligible after his so year due to age

I think Mark Laird was a draft eligible sophomore as well. Does OCS hold back their kids?

I would think that it would help his pro stock, if he can play @ a high level for 2 years, he could have bargaining power for early draft...

Both!

An infield w/ 4 shortstops is entertaining!

Benitendi made 21 one month after he was drafted. Slaughter will make 22 four months after June 18's draft, if he is good enough to leave after a Soph campaign.
