Poor viewing set up IMHO.

> One day....

I've been here for 11 years, and I still feel like I'm on vacation every day. The ONLY drawback in my book is that everything is more expensive here, but I was always broke before I got here anyway, so might as well be broke at the beach!

Plus once you're a local, you quickly discover that locals don't pay for a lot of stuff; we just trade out various perks & services, either for our own benefit or to pass on to our customers/clients depending on industry. (This is a lot easier to do in a market like 30A, where most jobs are service-based rather than product-based.)

All that to say, it's not nearly as hard as you think to take the plunge and move to the beach!

Shades ... as mentioned. Prepare to be overwhelmed by Bama/Nole/Dawg/Gator/Barn fans.

I watched the Bama Patrick Peterson no catch game there.

I went to Stinky's to get some bait the weekend of the Auburn game, and the girl helping me asked if I was coming back to watch the LSU - AU game. She says that the LSU folks congregate there. I didn't go but chose instead to endure the misery in solitude. P.S. To add insult to injury, I didn't catch any fish, either.

Because I'm not limiting myself to just one spot. If you've ever been, there are many little small communities down a two lane beach road all within a very reasonable drive or bike depending on where you are. If I said Grayton Beach, which is where I'm staying, then it might suggest that I'm just looking to stay around there.

This time of year it's very reasonable to stay on 30A, no baller status needed. HomeAway is a great app and you can rent a flat or loft around there for under $150 per night. Thank you guys for all of the great info.

IceHouse across the street from High Pointe between Rosemary and Alys. Better food and cleaner than a regular sports bar. Watched March Madness games there this past year and it was great.

The best place to watch a LSU game is by far and away at Stinkys Bait Shack with the 30A Bayou Bengals IMO. We always have solid LSU crowd along with full control of TV AND audio, food and drink specials just for Tigers. Lots of good suggestions, but you are welcome to be part of the local Tiger population/Alumni Association.

That's what happens when you don't make it past Biloxi on vacation

We were just there in early August. We rented a house on Defuniak a stones throw from The Red Bar and Chiringo. I did most of my Olympic event viewing at Chiringo. They have a great little bar setup area, but it's not built for capacity. If you want a sporting atmosphere with plenty of fandom I would lean more on the suggestions of some other contributors. If you want a great little spot with some cool menu items and good drinks I recommend Chiringo.

I'll be there. I was at the Red Bar yesterday and Johnny McTighe's last night so needless to say I'm nursing a hangover. Where are you 30A guys watching the Alabama vs Tennessee game?

Sounds like a good day! I'll be watching from my house, I have work to wrap up before the game tonight. It can be tough watching Bama vs anyone out here...Bama fans in droves. If I was free to watch where I wanted I would be watching from an iPad/iPhone on the beach. We'll have it on at Stinkys leading up to kickoff.

*we are in the Bait Shack....just follow the LSU flags.
