Wondering if Saban is nearing the end of the peak time of his coaching career. Below are the ages of three coaches with a significant amount of wins/championships and their age when their teams won. Average age that they won was 59. Coaching is a young man's job so wondering if he may be nearing the end of his run. Not wishing bad on the guy, but his teams have been awfully hard to defeat and it presents a pretty significant and frustrating challenge when a team/coach combo like this is in your own conference and division.

After Bear Bryant finished his run, LSU and Bama seemed to be on a more even footing for several years.

Thoughts ?

Coach - Year of Championship - Age of Coach
Paterno- 1982 - 56
Paterno - 1986 - 60
Bowden - 1993 - 64
Bowden - 1999 - 70
Bear Bryant - 1961 - 48
Bear Bryant - 1964 - 51
Bear Bryant - 1965 - 52
Bear Bryant - 1973 - 60
Bear Bryant - 1978 - 65
Bear Bryant - 1979 - 66
Saban - 2003 - 52
Saban - 2009 - 58
Saban - 2011 - 60
Saban - 2012 - 61
Saban - 2015 - 64

Another silly thread.

Saban and Bama are about to blow away the recruiting rankings again with this class.

They will be in the hunt annually.

This isn't over. Not by a long shot.

It's a little easier when you can stockpile so much talent. Some of those guys can play anywhere yet they go and sit for 2/3 years.

Without all that talent I still think Saban is not as progressive on offense as he needs to be.

Interesting. I think Saban will be around for at least another 2-3 years to try and win one more. I think his ego is too big to retire before at least getting there for a chance to win one last time.

He will always be a great recruiter and he has basically unlimited money at Bama so he always has a chance to be in it. I would wait to see how they end up two years from now before officially declaring their reign over with.

If this isn't Saban's peak, I'm terrified of what will be.

I think these last few years are his peak. The problem is that his peak is more a plateau and when does it start to drop off.

I think he is revolutionary enough to see this trend, hence the shadow staff. He has set himself up for a very long run compliments of the Bama resources. I think all of this was a result of 6-3. Saban reached out to the saints staff on his to stop LSU and the results spoke for themselves unfortunately.

Sadly I think we are closer to the beginning than the end. Despite what he's said in the past I think Saban is going to be one of those coaches that keeps going into his 70s. He doesn't seem to enjoy anything but coaching football. Most of the time he doesn't look like he's even enjoying that.

I've been wondering when the program will collapse due to all of the pariahs that they recruit. Basically, there's nothing Alabama about Bama. They are a collection of ego driven 18 year old out of state mercenaries concerned only about themselves. They are led by a mercenary who feels no allegiance to any principle or institution. Frankly, I'm very surprised they haven't already collapsed under the weight of their own conceit? It will happen.

Saban will go down as the best college football coach ever. I think he is a dick and fits perfectly for the gumptards of Alabama, but he is a phenomenal coach far from finished/peaking.
