next year for Crowton to not get canned and Miles with him for keeping him around? They finished the regular season in the 80's this year... with two five star wide reciever's probably playing their last years next year... what is the worst rank our offense could have and still be good enough considering that we have recruited yet another QB?

Better O rank = better record. If we go 10-2 again next year and our offense is worse than 75 I'll be pissed b/c of what could have been

i wouldnt be so sure. the league isnt very interested in guys who catch 15 balls a year, no matter how talented they are

randle would have to have an all-american type year to leave after 2011 and shepard is still raw as can be.. not saying they aren't capable of making big plays, but I think they both stay 4 years

That's as good a number as any - higher than 40 was what I was going to say, 30-something or better.

And, I believe that record trumps rank, but the offensive has been a hindrance for two seasons (though they've had some great plays, drives and comebacks along the way).

This is simply not true. A better O rank = better record only if everything else remains the same. Which it won't.

Even then it might not be true. A team could rank #50 overall on both sides of the ball and still be a contender if the turnover ratio is good enough.

In all of your vast college coaching experience, how many sophmore QB's have you seen light up SEC defenses? Don't you think that the great gawd nicky the awesome would just be salivating over facing a rookie QB?

yeah tebow was just horrible his first year starting in the SEC...so was Cam, and Aaron Murray. Yall act like Mettenberger didnt take his team to the the National Title, i dont care if its Div III (I know its juco just making a point)its still the national title along with 33 tds and 4 picks. The best QB's in college football would be lucky to play an entire college football season on any level and only throw 4 ints.

ehhh just a few huh? I think we will be just fine and for those saying mettenberger wont start, I'm sure Les just pulled out all the stops to get this kid and is going to bench him when he clearly will be the better option at QB for 2011

100% accurate...Mettenberger is Les' guy...he recruited him and believes that he is the man

When speaking of LSU's record, I'd just like to point something out. Of all the current teams in the Top 25 BCS rankings, LSU has the second highest average recruiting class over the past 5 years.

Rank over record? You're entering dangerous waters with this argument IMO. I'm happy LSU had a good regular season at 10-2, but they failed to win their conference, win their division, go to a BCS bowl, or even get a bowl match up against a top 15 BCS opponent.

I'll say it once again, LSU had a good season this season, but for a season that caught Florida with their pants down reloading and Alabama finishing with three (maybe four) losses, LSU's offense left more to be desired. Second highest average recruiting class over the past five years, Florida, Bama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tenn all having sub-par years, makes me think yeah, 10-2 is great, but we won't have many shots like we had this year, in this league.

I compiled the rankings myself from rivals.com ill post them here if anyone wants to see the average recruiting classes over the past 5 years for all top 25 teams in bcs.

Jordan Jefferson was a junior this past season, and historically, I could argue that the vast majority of SEC QBs that finish as top rated qbs tend to experience success early on. They might have made mistakes, but they also put up good offensive numbers on the way. If Mett is going to be the man in 2012, then he should be starting in 2011, because we have a defense that should be able to compensate for some rookie mistakes and atleast we'll see something resembling an offense.
