I agree with his point in general. But using CG as his tent post is a bad example to use. From the first month he got on campus, we were hearing things about his work ethic, his fat, etc. Never turned around.

But LE's was countering the specific statement that CG wasn't good. Attacking CG's ethic is one thing, but his overall talent is another.

you said the coaches didnt think he was good enough to play. This after just 1 year.

A year and a half into the program, he was not in a position to even play STs

Debo was making plays in real games by that time.

Debo had made it to #2 on the depth chart by year 2 and was neck and neck with Lamin Barrow

Yes, I remember some of it...was All state LBer, Mr.Football in louisiana ...Came to LSU, Dad was bragging on him saying he would be All Freshman his 1st yr, be All SEC by his soph year and win the Heisman trophy by his junior year... dude ran a 4.69 forty and never saw the field...dad was pissed and had it out with the coaches deciding to hve him transfer to Texas..well there he was nothing more than a reserve...he ended up going to LA TECH in 2002 where he started and ended up with 72 tackles and 2 int... wasn't drafted in the NFL and was out of football....

And Debo was not nearly as highly rated. That's the disconnect. Right or wrong fans expect at least ST and garbage time contributions from 5*s early. CG wasn't even playing in the spring game.

only means something for about 0.001% of college athletes when talking about how good they are.

so lets put the puzzle pieces together

- AA practice video comes out and he looks horrible and I mean horrible. People freak the frick out.

- He shows up and "struggles with the heat" his first year. Which to me clearly reads he has conditioning problems.

- Plenty of rumors about his exploits at TL.

- Listed behind Feist and others in spring game.

- Transfers to JC.

- Comes back to UAB....a team that got football cut last year.

I don't think coming to the conclusion that he wasn't what we thought is ridiculous.

You're saying they lie on the depth chart (about LB)? Fine, he may have played special teams, but he was listed (at best) #3 after the spring a MLB and the coaches said peep about his progress or anything.

Yep, that's him. Was it Saban's first year? I remember being shocked when it happened, and wondered why the staff didn't fight to keep him. It was like they just let him walk out the door, didn't even make him sit out a year, gave him a full transfer.

After that, I realized Saban seemed to have known kid was a bust, and let him walk. I now always figure when they let a kid walk without much of a fight, they must know something we don't.

I agree with you Les

He was only here for one year, and no one here knows how much he'd have played this year if he stayed. And he wasn't cut from the team, he left on his own and that could be for many different reasons.

Maybe he sucks, maybe he is just lazy or hates school. I don't know, but it seems earlier the narrative on the rant was the latter, now its just that he plain sucks.

Debo was at least able to contribute heavily on STs for 3 years. CG wasn't in a position to contribute at all. I don't see what that has to do with CG anyway. He chose to transfer.

We've had some depth at OLB, or have you forgotten Kwon already? Contributing on ST is still contributing.

If Garrett couldn't get run at MLB this year, then he doesn't belong here. \thread

it was explained to me by an LSU trainer that in high school you have possibly 4 or 5 top notch athletes on a team...when you get to college you have a whole team full of top notch athletes and some stand out and others don't...he told me he has seen guys that were all state on both sides of the ball look like "everyday joe's" in practice ...they hardly or never see the field..that it doesn't matter what you did in high School becuz its a whole different scenario when you step foot into a college program....

im not saying they lie about the depth chart, but it's not always accurate (DJ Chark anyone)

im saying i doubt you knew what our coverage teams looked like in June when he left.

Just because fans have high expectations for five star recruits doesn't mean he didn't fall well below even reasonable ones. That's an assumption you're making. Why do you believe, with such a lack of depth, that the coaches would be content with such a talented player leaving?

you're going to pretend that Deion Jones was anything more than a special teams player after 2 years?

Deion Jones had over 40 tackles his first 2 years here

Really, REALLY bad comparison
