A Kansas assistant coach told me Newman would start on their team this past year. And you think he wouldn't start for us?

Kansas had 2 of the top 6 players in the nation in their last recruiting class

Cliff Alexander- 7pts 5 rebs
Oubre - 9pts 5 rebs

and they didnt even really have anyone blocking them.

high rankings does not mean automatic star

Think you missed the point. If the dude could start at Kansas you think he couldn't start here?

I think you missed the point. You dont think they brought in 2 top 6 recruits to start and be potential, at the least, all big-12 players?

neither were close to that

maybe Newman would have started, but it doesn't mean he would have been worth a damn.

Yep you got it right, no doubt he wouldn't be worth a damn. My original post was to someone saying that it would take until sec play for Malik to be ready to start. The whole point is that he would've started at a premier program in the country when he was a senior in hs, and people hunk he may or may not start at a middle of the road upstart program. That's laughable at best.

Malik Newman won't be coming to LSU and I think that is a good thing if we can get another decent big man who can rebound and play defense.

Newman and Blakney both like to put the ball up and would not be good together IMO. Quarterman and Hornsby play defense, hustle and rebound as well as score. Shooting is good to have but you have to have the little things done also. Not everyone can be a superstar. A mix of stars and role players is what you need.

And even if we got Newman, no way can he step in and play point guard. We only have one true point guard and that is Gray. TQ is okay but a little shaky at times with his ball handling. Patterson is really an undersized shooting guard who can handle the ball but doesn't know how to set up other players.

So all the unrealistic pumpers who are going to blame CJJ when we don't immediately roll over everyone should realize we don't have the two most important things a team needs. A reliable point guard and a great rebounding, defensive center.

You know, those things Kentucky always has at least two of every year. Not saying we don't have the potential to have those things and win even if we don't but it is far from a lock.
