Has LSU matched up against FSU in the postseason before and then more specifically have they in Omaha? If they have, does anybody have any good memories of those games and how LSU fared?

I seem to remember beating Ronnie Lewis...was their big bad reliever in the 90's...but my memory may be wrong

LSU beat FSU when they had one of the best pitchers in college baseball, Richie Lewis.

Richie Lewis, late 80s, stood about 5'7" (but listed at 5'10"). Fastball in the mid to upper 90s.

There may be other meetings, but LSU beat FSU in the opening game in 1987. They lost to FSU in the opening game of the 1994 CWS en route to going 0-2 that year. LSU then beat FSU in 2000 to get to the championship game. That's the only 3 CWS matchups (I think)

1987: Tigers win 6-2 in 10 innings in the opening round.

1994: FSU wins 6-3 in the opening round.

2000: Tigers win 6-3 in the semifinals.

FSU's Mike Martin has been coach since 1980. This will make his 15th CWS and he has yet to win one.

ETA: since softball went to Tallahassee and ended their season last month...it would be nice if baseball can continue that trend...or at least start them on their way.

The longevity of even marginally successful baseball coaches is astounding.

My memory isn't the best either but I remember the Tigers and FSU playing in the old Winn Dixie Showdown at the Superdome back in 1987. If I recall correctly. FSU won 2-1 with Lewis going the whole way and throwing an insane amount of pitches. FSU also had a CF by the name of Deion Sanders.

(Kind of a baseball neophyte here, so) Does it matter? Teams change a good bit year to year don't they? Honest question.

ETA: sorry, looks like we're talking about just general history and stats as opposed to bearing on the upcoming game.

For the longest times schools were never going to pay a coach to not coach baseball. To this day there are only a handful of schools that would do that. Basically baseball coaches were like decent high school football coaches at small schools. As long as you win a couple of games and don't get in any trouble you can coach as long as you would like.

Haven't won fewer than 40 games in a season since 1977. Have made the NCAA tourney every year from 1978 on, but has not won a single championship. Mike Martin at the helm the whole time.
