Nothing is wrong with Sams game imo. He is a great player that came off a decently serious knee injury and responded great. I think what will hurt his draft stock is not having a lot of PT coupled with a few other decent DEs coming out.
Not to mention most of teams needs picks 1-15 wont choose a rs soph DE. QBs, RB, OL and DBs will dominate the top 20 picks.

i don't see why that matters. he got 9.0 sacks before the title game and anchored our entire defense

sam montgomery was the most important player on the #1 or 2 defense in the country this year

any team who would pick a RB over a DE stud deserves to lose every game. i don't know if i'd pick a RB in the first 60 picks

Picks that could be taken before Sam:
Melvin Ingram - USC
Quenton Couples - UNC
Donte Paige-Moss - UNC
Devin Taylor - USC
Whitney Mercilus - Ill
Brandon Jenkins - FSU
Nick Perry - USC
Vinny Curry - Marsh
Frank Alexander - OU
Alex Okafor - UT
Jake Bequette - Ark
Bruce Irvin of WVu could possible even slip down and play DE

any eligible DE could go ahead of sam

is there a DE who has prototypical size who has been as productive as sam (relative to competition)?

look at frank alexander. he was less productive in a lesser league (and i'm betting he isn't as big as sam)

ingram is really short for a DE. may have to play DE in a 1-gap 3-4 system

i'm curious what couples does in workouts, b/c he's a jumbo DE

i think trent is an awesome RB but i wouldn't draft him until the 3rd. RBs aren't worth hardly anything in the NFL

you can get quality RBs all over for cheap

Frank Alexander 6'4 255

All Im saying is he WONT be the first DE taken and therefor will NOT go in the top 20 picks. Bump this after draft day 1 and I'll eat all the crow you want.

TR is a guaranteed top 10 pick. And yes ANY team would take TR over Sonic Sam.

RBs are worth shite in the NFL. if you spend too much on RBs, you're wasting money for premium positions (DE, CB, LT, QB)

well i'm not projecting sam to be the #1 DE until i see what he does at the combine (and what others do)

but picking RBs over DEs will make you a shitty football team

i really don't get this syndrome. i don't see it with many other fanbases. they pump their guys up for the draft

Other will project higher. That along with what I posted earlier. If Sam does come out early I hope he is the #1 DE taken, I just dont see it at all. I also think teams take into account LSU having 2 all american CBs aiding his stats and production.
With more PT and game film on him he certainly could slip into the #1 spot next year.

I love Sam. Probably my favorite player on the team.
Some of you guys just need to take off the PnG glasses.

No doubt. If Brockers and Sam go and get picked in the first round that would be three Tigers on defense as first rounders. Pretty good recruiting pitch IMO. All as underclassmen.
