There isn't one.

He did okay in the closer role before SEC play then kinda sucked.

He's had one start and did fairly well.

Liked what I saw. It was huge that LSU took a lead early to take a little pressure off. Some solid defense behind him as well. He also threw some clutch pitches at key moments. Can't argue with pitching a shutout.

This was his first start, and he looked good with 5 shutout innings, but too early to draw too many conclusions about him. Hopefully he's found his role.

IMO, he has good potential due to his control, velocity, and demeanor on the mound. He is a pitch to contact type who needs to develop an out pitch to become a consistently effective pitcher in the SEC.

Just hoping ell doesn't start a thread entitled "Gilbert is our starter."

If it works out as well as the first one, we should be good till Omaha before it busts.

In all fairness, two innings later. He was put in in the 7th. Most closers don't go 3 innings.

his performance today was encouraging. for a freshman to start an SEC game and go 5 innings is impressive. when this team gets a good performance on the mound, it wins.

It is really really tough and rare to find a third starter in college who you can rely on the entire season. We have seen the ebbs and flows with Valek and Gilbert, and I trust that both of them will be reliable as the season winds down. We will need one of them to step up for sure. 5 solid innings should be generally good enough, as other teams struggle with this same thing.

He didn't give up any runs in the first inning which is a big plus compared to all of our other starters lately

Valek should still pitch on the weekends when one of the 3 run into trouble early. There is great chance that one of the 3 will run into trouble on any given weekend that's when you bring Valek in to give you some innings.

He explained it himself in The Advocate when he said playing before a smaller crowd in a less pressure packed game situation then when he comes in with the Indians running around the bases, it was a lot easier. He's only a freshman & with Dunn coaching him, he should only get better. As Ben said, "his stuff is there".
