Two hires in a row were meh. I think this is worse than when we hired Les. Only the program was in a lot better condition then.

Even if the last few years didn't go well, the Miles hire certainly worked out for the first 7-8 years, so if we can repeat that success, we'll be in good shape.

Otherwise, the hiring practices have never been to do all humanly possible, whatever it takes, to consistently achieve excellence, and nothing less than excellence. Upper second tier has always been "good enough", and generally accepted.
Why do you suppose that is? Do you think administration makes that consciously makes that decision?

What does that even mean in relation to what you quoted?

I am giving Orgeron a chance. He has proven he can get this dumpster fire that Miles and Cameron left us with turned around.

Frankly, I honestly think that few could have done what Orgeron did with this team considering the low point they were in after the Auburn game.

If we bring in the staff Orgeron wants then things will be fine.

Like Fickell was an Interim coach.

Tresses got a huge suspension and they then went and got Urban Meyer

It says our administration is exactly the same it was back in the late 80s. A good ole boy system with nobody in charge. Alleva is pathetic can't negotiate and has no real power or vision. It also says that with these ppl in charge LSU has fallen from college footballs elite and is back to a middle of the pack program. Its impossible not to love coach O and I will pull for him like hell but you don't hire him if you're a top 10 program.

Our program is a better program now than Bama was when they hired Saban, fwiw.

Ed was not a mediocre hc. Cutcliffe is mediocre. O was a dozen wins shy of mediocre.

I hope he succeeds greatly. I'll watch every game. But his previous hc stop was a well documented failure.

Can you tell me what Tom Herman has done to be considered elite?

So you're waiting for a coach with 1-2 NCs in the trophy case to waltz on over to LSU, just because?

That doesn't happen. You don't just wait around for a proven championship winner to hit the market. You have to try to find the next guy up. You most likely will fail in that pursuit but if you don't even try to find that guy, that means the program has given up trying to win championships.

At least Texas is trying.

Not performing at an elite level for a time does not mean you're not an elite program. Kind of a dumb point to make. The University of Texas is an elite college football program right now. Bama was too even after a few years of struggling. Don't kid yourself into thinking they weren't. Or else, why did Saban choose to go to Bama? Exactly

Only answer.

We aren't serious about winning.

Texas is.

Calling BS on this thread....not looking at things very deeply.....Hermann had ties to Texas...that is where he wanted to be....Jimbo has his kids in Tally.....no amount of money could have brought these guys to BR. Neither of these gentleman wanted anything to do with playing Bama and Saban every year.

Ok.

So you go to the next tier.

You don't immediately go the d line coach with a binder and no agent.

Look at it from 2015. If JA had said he was firing Miles to promote Orgeron, would you have considered that a success? I didn't think so. Well, this is what, in fact has happened. It is a complete failure at hiring a top level coach whatever that means.

I will consider the hire to be a failure unless and until Coach O leads the team to an SEC championship. Oh, and who has he got lined up for OC???
