I think we will be fine..... just as good if not better than Miles... at least this team will be exciting to watch and have the players be able to do what they do best...

Calling BS on this thread....not looking at things very deeply.....Hermann had ties to Texas...that is where he wanted to be....Jimbo has his kids in Tally.....no amount of money could have brought these guys to BR. Neither of these gentleman wanted anything to do with playing Bama and Saban every year.

Coaching hires are always going to be measured with 20/20 hindsight.

I fall into the Coach O is a legitimate hire camp:
His football pedigree in terms of overall experience is inarguable and he brings a fair amount of intangibles, including recruiting abilities and a visceral understanding of the importance of LSU football to its state and its fans.

Now, how exactly the search was conducted, I don't know, and that is something that can be analyzed and debated. But it too will be judged after, and not before, the fact.

I say let's give O the chance before condemning. I my book, he only has had only one true swing and miss: the FLA loss.

On what basis? How is Herman elite? Did he get a puter for Christmas??

3 years ago Strong = Herman today

People love the new shiny thing. Herman is that and was certainly a "sexier" hire.

People forget that Strong was as highly reputable as Herman is today. Strong didn't work out. Herman might or he might not. The assumption that Herman is a sure thing is silly. Is O a risk......yes. Is he more of a risk than Herman...........all things being considered, I think not.

people forget that for every Urban Meyer there are 20 Charlie Strongs and Brian Kellys. It really doesn't matter how much you pay these guys, they're still gambles, every bit as much as Orgeron. Unless you're hiring a proven winner like Saban, then it's all a crap shoot. Orgeron wasn't my choice, but people in here really need to relax.

Texas is going to overpay, in a big way, for Herman because they're desperate. He is not worth what they will pay him right now. It would have been stupid to get into a bidding war with them for that coach. PJ Fleck is a huge gamble. Fisher has no reason to leave FSU. Who else is out there? Orgeron at least brings with it stability and at a much cheaper price. If he doesn't work out, it will be easier to fix than signing some unproven hot shot 5+ million a year for a long term deal.

Herman took a million less a year to coach at Texas. He wasn't coming here no matter what.

By any objective measurement, our program at the time of hire is in a better position than Bama was before they hired Saban.

So...

Maybe we should be rethinking that position.

this is a blatant distortion. UT was Hermans school of choice due to his connections and past there. the program is a dumpster fire but he thinks he can turn it around. all our offer would have done was make UT pay more. those kind of games are childish and lack class. Herman made his choice when he declined negotiating with us until he talked to UT.

you may not like our hire and may be unhappy with the way it came down but to post outright lies is low down man.

good luck on getting through to the anti-alleva crowd. I have posted almost the exact same post on several occasions even before Miles was fired (and recently). yet it seems that some yo-yos choose to denigrate LSU instead of just voicing an opinion. if they ARE lsu fans they must be full of self loathing. they certainly don't have a clue how the real world works.

Alabama didn't "luck" into Saban. The year before Bama fired Shula, he went 10-2. Followed that with 6-6, and Bama canned him because they went hard after Saban and paid him a massive salary that many in Alabama questioned as far too high, at the time.

No luck involved - Bama went and got their guy, because after years of mediocre coaches, they made a decision to open the checkbook and go get the best.

You think if Orgeron loses 4 games every year and never beats Bama that he'll be around in 4-5 years?
o formed an army in his favor, media, former players, it will take an act of congress to get rid of him
