I think he enjoys his job, and is ok to listen to. He did pick against us yesterday morning, but starting eating his crow somewhat graciously midways of the third quarter.

My favorite is Ron Franklin, of course he lost his position with ESPN. Todd Blackledge and Gary Danielson are good also. I don't care for at all for Musburger or Lundquist. Herbstreit is good most of the time. Mike Patrick is good. Jesse Palmer, Ed Cunningham and Chris Spielman are okay. I don't care that much for Matt Millen or Craig James. I don't see how Bob Davie ever became Notre Dame's head coach or an analyst for ESPN.

i just watched the first 3 quarters again. A couple of Musberger greats that I forgot:

- The Oregon DB dives to trap the ball for a would be INT that eventually gets overturned. After he dives, he rolls over, gets up and runs 50 yards like a retard as if he has just been teleported to the NFL where he can do that. Musberger goes apeshit over this imaginary play, screaming about how "HE'S TAKING IT ALL THE WAY TO THE HOUSE!!!" fricking idiot.

-LeMichael James cuts back across the field to gain 2 yards. Musberger is screaming at the top of his lungs "I THINK HE GOT IT!!??> YESSSSSS, HE DID.!!!" over James breaking the Oregon rushing record that nobody on earth gives a frick about.

-The sucking off of Black Mamba in the first half was insane by both of them especially Musbie. He caught 5 passes for about 5 yards each with zero YAC and Brent told America to look out for him.

-As someone mentioned earlier, James scores a 5 yard TD after the phantom helmet to helmet hit and Musberger announces that America better not keep James off their heisman list. The stats scrol on the bottom as he says this - James 13 carries, 37 yards, 2.8 yards per carry.

Musberger attempted to give Clement a French pronunciation and Herbie was flustered at that.

During the game, Herbie gave the D-line props. I liked that.
He distinguished the upper eschelon SEC teams from the rest of the football universe. Better D-lines.
He also acknowledged that the DBs were premier.

This was hilarious. As that happened, one of the less intense football fans at my house turned and asked me "Is that REALLY GOOD running back for Oregon playing tonight?"

I think Herbie was more than fair in this game and was giving all kinds of props by the games end.

I don't think he really had a good fix on the game in advance. Him and Mush seem to be both caught up on the Oregon's stats and LaMichael James Heisman finish last year. Anyone who saw the Cotton Bowl last year knew that it was a strong probability that LSU would pound away the run in order to set up some easy passes for JL. If they were on target, both would have pointed out one of the keys to the game was Oregon stopping LSU's running offense. We don't have big name backs, but our guys did great. Spencer pounded it out and Ford ran around and played catch me if you can. Herbie and Mush both to me are hypers. They get on something and won't get off it until it is obvious to everyone it's not working e.g. Oregon's spread offense.

I did not appreciate Herb's comment about it being a "coincidence" that both our D-tackles got hurt on the same play. Come-on....the spread hurry up wasn't really working so it didn't matter. And the Oregon fans booing was not right. Have respect for the players and give them the benefit of the doubt. Herbie as a former player should know better and not make that mistake next time.
