What are your thoughts on the secondary and our individual players?

This thread isn't meant to rag on our players individually. I'm just trying to see what y'all think about the individual play in the secondary and how you think they stack up as whole unit.

our secondary has its ups and downs. As a whole though I think we do pretty damn well.

Pretty damn good if you ask me

I think some of them may be confused from the changes in coordinators.

KT2 and RJ9 need to be put on second team after that performance vs MSST

The safeties played much better against State and the corners were in good position most of the time.
There isnt a defense for a good route and good throw and state hit a couple of those, its going to happen in every game.

Our safeties can be liabilities in coverage. They both play better closer to the LOS.
Jackson and Tolliver are both incredibly athletic and gifted, but both have their faults, which is to be expected with 2 young corners. Jackson gets lost at times and Tolliver has trouble playing the ball.
Tre White is beasting.

Jamal Adams is a beast
Tredavious White is a beast
Kevin Toliver is almost there. He is great in man to man coverage, but he needs to learn to turn his head around. He is in good position but never makes the play. He also gets run off way to easily on run plays. That also comes back to never turning his head around.
Donte Jackson is raw. Tons of talent, but needs more experience in coverage. I wish we would have him play more bump and run rather than lining up off the WR. He is never going to get beat deep anyway. Let him trail the WRs, read and react, he is one of the quickest players in college football.
Rickey Jefferson is a liability in coverage, and he struggles against power run teams.
Dwayne Thomas is terrible, he should hardly ever see the field.
John Battle is a guy I want to see play more. He seems to have good range, but its hard to tell with his limited action. I think having him in more would allow Adams the freedom to be the ball hawking playmaker he naturally is.
Nobody else has shown anything that gets me really excited, but I wouldn't mind seeing more of the younger guys in there to see what they can do. More Ed Paris, John Battle, and Saivion Smith in exchange for alot less Dwayne Thomas and a little less Rickey Jefferson.

Our secondary is fine. Once Tolliver gets back in a groove, we will be fine.
Jamal Adams is a great player, and White is a lock down type guy. He's great in the slot.
My greater concern is our inability to generate a pass rush outside of Key. If Key doesn't get to the QB, or if we don't blitz, we get exposed, as any secondary does.
I also think that Aranda is being fairly vanilla so far. Not a ton of pressure and blitzes being called. But when he does call it, it's worked. I think as the season progresses, and we play harder conference teams, he will get more aggressive.

There has been some mistakes but as a whole they have been pretty good, I expect them to continue to get better the more they play in this new system.

Toliver needs to get his head around and Dwayne Thomas should never see the field at DBU
The rest of them have been salty

Based on reading the board today (and everyday):
White and Adams are good in spite of Miles.
Everyone else sucks because of Miles.

Absof'inglutely. KT2 is going to get burned with the likes of Swag Kelly.

White- playing as well as anyone in the country, elite footwork and acceleration
Adams- great tackling safety, great instincts. One of the top safeties in the country
Jackson- great in man coverage, elite top end speed and great ball skills. Gets lost in zone coverage sometimes leading to coverage busts.
Toliver- physical corner, potential to be shutdown. Lacks elite top end speed, part of the reason he is late to get his head around at times on deep balls. Still in position to make plays deep more often than not when this is corrected
Jefferson- Solid player. Good in run support, sometimes attempts to make a play on the balls flight path instead of the point the ball will reach receiver leading to YAC.
Battle- more range and length than Jefferson, not quite the run support safety Jefferson is.
^ my opinions/observations

Got a while before that game and Kelly has been wholly unimpressive this year.

Toliver is not playing well doesn't get his head around at all and doesn't tackle well.Thomas should not be playing at all gets burnt almost every time he's in coverage

I agree. Toliver can turn it around though, Thomas just isn't the same caliber player as others in this secondary

Yep. Saw a few more stunts, I think Neal got a sack off one. I like the pressure up front and love seeing a creative pass rush.
I trust Aranda because like he said early on, it seems like he's unveiling new dimensions every week but not implementing too much at once. Just like he said, there should be improvement every week. As the pressure up front continues to increase, the secondary play will get better.
