Lesticles won that game. We haven't seen him much lately. The conservative Miles we've seen since 1/9 would have lost that game. So many 4th down conversions in that game.

There was actual rationale behind the 4th downs.

I agree with PJ to a point. I don't think RP would have made a huge difference in 2008. The defense still would have sucked. I do think it would have been a huge difference in 2009.

LSU beats Alabama minimum in 08 with RP. Lee handed them that game.

Yet some of the "know-it-all", "holier than thou" posters on this site bitched and thought Keiland Williams should have gotten a lot of Hester's carries that year...

My buddy, a diehard Longhorns fan, went to his first LSU game with me for that one. He openly admitted that LSU has the best scene of anywhere for a college football game. It almost brought a tear to my eye to hear it.

And yes...Hester was a fricking beast that game...so was Miles.

Not sure TS has ever been any better than when they announced the score of the Stanford/SC game. EVERYONE was on the same page...LSU players, coaches and fans and even the UF team. Was as that game and got goosebumps again watching that part this morning.

What is often forgotten....after this scenario, Tebow managed to stick a 5 play, 80 yard drive squarely up our arse. That guy was nails

And made Rashad Johnson an All-American from that game as well.

I don't think LSU is any better in 2008 or 2009 even with RP....

And that's why you are one of the top 5 dumbest posters on the site. Way to go, PJ.

I think we are vastly different. Hatch??? Really? Felt bad for the kid but he was a joke as an SEC quarterback. One hit at Auburn and he was done.

Lee wasn't ready and being thrown into the fire like that destroyed the kid for good. Don't know if he could have developed differently under other circumstances but in my opinion, he was serviceable at best.

I think with RP LSU comes close to repeating and allows good QB development of Lee and Jefferson.

Of course we'll never know.

All of this. Warning LONG

2008
First year starter but had Byrd, LaFell, Toliver, and Dickson, a great OL, plus a 1-2 punch of Scott and Williams who combined for nearly 1600 yards (5.3 ypc) and 20 TDs. Add in his running ability to theirs (52 car 207 yards 2 TDs in 2007 as a backup), and you had a triple threat rushing attack with a QB who had a cannon arm and great accuracy. We lost by 14 to UGA and 2 of those TDs were pick 6s. We lost by 7 to Bama in OT with 4 picks and one of them being a pick 6. We lost by 1 stinking point to Arky. IMO, we make up those three, but I'll concede the losses to UF and Ole Miss as one was by 18 points, and the other was by 30. A 10-2 record or 9-3 record at worst.

2009
Perriloux now in starter year 2 and as a redshirt senior, throwing to LaFell. Toliver, Dickson, and new 5 star Randle. His OL would have still been bad, but as a legit passer that could run, he would have helped the run game out immensely. We lost by 10 to UF, 9 to Bama, and 2 to Ole Miss during the regular season. You mean to tell me 5 star Perriloux, who was regarded as the most dangerous offensive weapon in the country his high school senior season, the guy who they said had fast legs, a cannon for an arm, and pen point accuracy, a guy in his now 5th year with a cast of top shelf pass catchers, couldn't cover "at the most" 10 points in those 3 losses? Undefeated was highly likely, and at the worst 11-1. WE would have probably been going to the SECCG, not Bama. At the very least, they couldn't leave out an 11-1 SEC team (loss to Bama in this scenario) for a BCS Bowl game.

2010
Think Lee finally starting in 2010 as a redshirt junior with 2 years behind Perriloux. A 1150 yard 15 TD rusher in Ridley would have been much better with a passing game (only 4.6 ypc), plus we had a top 10 defense. We lost to Cam Newton on the road by 7. We lost to Arky in Arkansas by 8. With any kind of decent passing game, we go undefeated, and WE are likely playing Oregon in the NCG.

Then you have 2011 and man o man. In 2012 if Jefferson hadn't transferred, we would have likely had a 5th year senior as Perriloux , Hatch, and Lee should have been more than enough cushion to redshirt him in 2008. I know all of you are like, well he is still JJ, and are you forgetting something? Jefferson was great as a true sophomore getting his first year starting despite having a horrible OL and terrible run game. Hill in 2013 by himself was better than our entire 2009 run game. Jefferson passed for 2160 yards at 61.5% 17 TDs and 7 ints in only 11 and a half games. He was #2 in the country in the redzone.

TOO LONG story short, Miles likely never has a season under 10 wins and gets at least one more national championship.

A lot of decent points you just made. But ALL through those years with RP as the starter, how sure are we he would not have gotten into something he shouldn't.... I am sorry but I saw an off field pattern with him I didn't like. And I still think Miles gave him too may chances and it cost him during the 2008 season as far as having a GRASP of his team.... I will never forget how flat the team came out on Senior day against OleMiss.. They got Smoked. No discipline at all on that team all year.... Plus again you have ALOT of IF'S in your post...

Gary: Whoa! (trucks Major Wright)
Verne: To the 20...(dragging Wright for extra yardage) To the 15!

Just asking but after reading many posts of this game it may be the most legendary in LSU history. Was it really that big of a win? I know AU also beat UF that year. If I recall correctly UF had kind of a "down" year. I could be wrong but I think they lost 4 maybe 5 games??

I will always wonder would could have been if Perrilloux didn't get kicked off the team. We definitely would have avoided the Jerret Lee pick 6 fest season.

No I don't have a lot of ifs, I have two ifs. The main one is if Ryan Perriloux had stayed out of trouble. The minor is if Jefferson had stayed on the team until he got the starting job in 2012.

The minor gives us a better and more prepared QB for the 2012 season. The main gets us what, a TD or 10 point swing in every game? I'm not saying we'd demolish everybody, but if you don't think Perriloux would have been a lot better in 2008 and 2009 than what we had, the conversation cannot be moved forward. Lee never being scarred from 2008 and learning behind a veteran for 2 years would be the outcome had Perriloux stayed out of trouble.

There is not a lot of ifs. It's the Perriloux "IF", and the Jefferson "if". That's it.
