By keeping Aranda and adding Canada I think it is at least B+

Strong as an A? He went 6-7, 5-7, and 5-7 in his three years at Texas. The Big XII, as a whole, was pretty wretched and that's all he could manage. Regardless of his recruiting ties in Florida or not, South Florida is still behind UF, FSU, and Miami.

Given his performance at UT, giving him an A is a little much...

No. O is C, possibly a D. Poor hire by a terrible AD. He's already gone from Pro to spread and back to pro style in his first month. What's that mean? It means he don't know what the frick he wants to do and he's hoping he can hire someone to tell him.

Is your grading here Norm-Referenced or Criterion-Referenced? A "C" in the first does not necessarily equal a "C" in the second. The first is based on everyone else's score--the second on the performance results. The grades this writer assigned are meaningless.

We never go with the home run hire, I think it has something to do with our budget.

That was HC changes alone. If you account for keeping Aranda and adding Canada it would be an A++.

Seriously?

Aranda is a Top 5 DC. I don't think that can be disputed.

Canada is considered in the Top 5 range.
And how about this. He was a Broyles award finalist (4 candidates) for top assistant of the year. The other 3 were DCs. He played the eventual winner, Venables the DC of Clemson, and beat him.

I'd say that's pretty promising.
