I really wish he would get HC consideration

why?

He doesn't have one second of head coaching experience. Head coach and coordinator are entirely different jobs requiring entirely different skill sets.

Will Aranda make a great head coach someday? Maybe, who knows. But is LSU the type of program where we hire a guy with no experience and roll the dice?

No, we need to go get the best proven HC we can get.

The question I have is everyone assumes he could bolt to highest bidder if new coach other that O is selected. Do we know he stays if O does get the job?

Based on the latest that says O is #2 on list now behind Fisher I would say that Aranda is secure.

Everyone around the program describes Aranda as an intellectual football prodigy and essentially no personality - no criticism intended here. What I worry about with him as a HC is that he has little ability to go out and sell the program to top notch guys on the fence. As a DC we know he will prosper, as a Used Car Saleman (aka Div 1 HC)he will starve in my opinion.

This is not bleak for Aranda however. If he chooses a path to the NFL where he does not have to sell anything to recruits and simply drafts his team then he could excel at something like that while not possessing the "salesman" persona.

Link? I call BS on this.

Unlike Chief, the powers that be, really want him here. I think they will pay what it takes to keep a top 5 DC that is as respected as he is.

Having a good defense doesn't automatically mean the guy will be a good head coach. Completely different skill sets required.

Did you not read my post?

He's a football coach, that's good enough for me. I couldn't care less about all the PR coach speak, which by the way I think he'd be fine.

I wonder what the magic offer number would be to retain him?

He will probably only be considered as a HC for a middle-to-lower tier program, having no HC experience.

2.2M as DC enough to stave off an offer from a Southern Miss or Kansas type of offer?

But, what about him jumping as DC to the NFL?

We are going to have to ge lucky to retain him.

We are keeping him that's the reason Herman isn't going to be head coach. We insisted Herman keep Arranda he refused so we moved to Jimbo the very next day. Jimbo is down to keep Arranda he'll pretty much do anything to come home sexton doesn't want him to take the job but he will anyway. But for once our admin is doing the smart thing and insisting the new HC keep Arranda.

See: Bill Belichick.

Let's be honest - we won't have Aranda forever. If we have him for even 2 more years we will have been lucky to have him. But a guy like this doesn't stop at LSU - he continues to the NFL. Let's just make it a point to enjoy every defensive play we can watch as fans, because our current Defensive Coordinator will be one of the best in the NFL at some point in his life.
