So remind me why we don't want a Pro-Style QB that can place the ball for our WR's to go up and get it?

Why do we want dual threats again? Because everyone else is doing it?

Coach O on the radio: We need to get pro style quarterbacks.
Coach O to Coach O: No. Ruin it. Make him decommit.

No one in this thread has broken 90 posts.

And about the OP: dual threat means they can run AND throw. Not either or. So idk what you're bitching about.

Bitching about O losing Brennan and potentially not being able to undo the damage.

What dual threat actually means contrary to what it's advertised as is decent at running and decent at throwing, elite at neither.

eta: it's like owning a crossover boat - it's advertised as a ski/fishing boat but in reality it is at best just ok for fishing and ok for skiing.

Because it's perceived that a dual threat qb is not as skilled at passing as a pro style qb.

Not trying to be Bama-obsessed, but the reality is that the one team we can't figure out how to beat eats "pro-style QB's" for supper. Nobody in college football can hold up to their front seven in traditional passing scenarios. Hell, plenty of so-called stats experts put our offensive line as one of the top-three in the country, and Etling was running for his life.

The offenses that have had success against the Crimson Menace have used spread concepts and have had good success with a dual-threat QB. We have to do more than score 17 points against those guys, and we haven't since 2010.

@ tigerfan337

It sure isn't because they are only average at running and passing. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Yes ppl believe because miles form of pro style failed that all pro style offenses don't work which is totally false. The typical knee jerk reaction is to go full on spread with running QBS.

It's about creating better blocking angles and lanes for RBs...the formation doesn't matter so much if you have a dominant OL, which we don't have yet...but I believe that this class is getting us closer...

The reason I'd say multiple pro is the best way to procede is because it gives you so many more options. You can line up in bigger sets and pound ppl or you can spread them out get players in space and take advantage of skill players. There's a reason the pros run it and if you go spread you risk turning off future DCs who are not going to come here and look bad because their defense is on the field for 85 plays a game. Look at TCU they made the switch and has it helped them?

The pros run it because they have the talent and intelligence at every position to do so. This is college football, don't get the two mixed up.

As for your second point, it's ignorant too. Scare off DCs, 85 plays a game? You do realize spread doesn't mean running HUNH right? It's not about plays ran anyway. It's about how fast you get off the field at either scoring or punting. LSU was scoring at a rapid rate in 2013 with a pro style offense, yet they were only averaging 65.3 plays per game (90th in the country).

Tell me why Urban Meyer has always had good defense even though he runs spread? Or how about Dabo who has had a top 10 total and scoring defense the past 3 years, minus the one year where his scoring defense was at 24. They not only recruit for talent and depth on defense, they really make it a point to have it.

REALLY? Did you wait until the third year of the OC switch to say this?

Patterson with pro style in Big 12/7-6, 4-8
Patterson with spread in the Big 12/12-1, 11-2, 6-6

If you paid attention you'd realize the real reason why he wasn't undefeated in 2015, and why he only broke even in his record this year (hint: it doesn't have anything to do with running a spread).

When you're a top 10 ranked team you have more talent than almost everybody which totally negates your point about needing great talent to run pro style and if you can name 3 spread offenses that don't go no huddle and up tempo I'd be suprised. As far as Meyer he's an out liar when it comes to spread coaching him Mullen and malzahn are the only power spread teams and we Arnt getting any of those guys so again you're wrong. And tcu? Gary Patterson won 11 games 7 times and had his most success with a pro offense including 12 games twice and 13 (his career best) he's also had his worst season running spread so again wrong. Have I covered everything? Do your homework before you call people ignorant. Ignorant!

Duel threat QBS have won 3 out of 16 championships this century so percentages favor a pro style system or pocket passing qb. This spread nonsense is a knee jerk reaction by uneducated fans like yourself who don't realize that LSU even with Les Miles 1970s offense is Alabamas biggest annual threat. All we need to do is run a modern pro offense we don't need to play big twelve cupcake ball.
