... Coach Jones lost it earlier this season in December and January. He failed to develop a bench, running his starters for record minutes against even scrub teams. Of course the players on the bench aren't as good as the starters, but they will never develop if you don't give them meaningful minutes on the floor.

That problem and the lack of timeouts are problems that Jones may improve on, but it seems very likely to be an issue throughout his career.

Rant: We need to play our bench players more.

Gray and Malone check in.............. 30 seconds later

Rant: Oh my God why are Gray and Malone playing.

We lose the game

The bench usage complaint is not wrong.

As a college coach with a thin roster or just a lack of depth in his eyes, you have to learn to buy time for your starters in the first half of games. You use the bench guys and play to whatever strengths they have in those stretches that you use them. That usually happens between the first media timeout (16 minute mark) through the last one in the first half (4 minute mark).

Failure to do this is inexcusable. You can save enough time for your starters early so that they are fresh enough later (most of the second half), when most games are really won or lost.

Jones did not accomplish this during the season.

There's a difference between using/developing your bench now, and in the early parts of the season when we play grambling

It's too fricking late in the first round of the NCAA tourney

10 minutes against Grambling ain't transforming Darcy's game.

10 minutes for Odo, Malone, Epps, etc. against all of the early teams will give you options.

Playing man to man with Malone against Abu (who beat everyone inside at least once) wasn't a great matchup, but we have other players. And we could consider a zone.

Epps is the one to develop in the non-conference but he was hurt.

So do "we" get to keep playing? I mean, since JJ lost the game? Did JJ miss free throws? Did he fail to make a fg for 10 minutes?

Lost because they cant do the most basic thing in basketball, shooting free throws

They should be running wins sprints until next year

LSU has six players that are capable of playing at this level. Maybe Epps will get better, Darcy may improve a bit, Bridgewater is just not tall enough and Odo is gone. Who knows with Elbert. Hopefully Victor can make a difference and if one of Elbert, Epps, and Malone can contribute every now and then LSU will be better next year even if both M@M leave.

Before the season started most of the rational rant thought LSU could make the NCAA's. They did accomplish this in at times amazingly frustrating ways. I think better times are ahead.
