At LSU than Curley Hallman?
Any sport, any era. I can’t think of one.

Curley was the first coach I remember from my childhood. It took my dad a lot of effort to instill a love for LSU despite Curley’s best efforts. Man those were dark days.

He actually brought in some talent. The ‘94 team had 11 or 12 starters that spent time on an NFL roster. And that was the year he started 2-7 and got canned.

I wasn’t crazy about Smoke Laval.

No clue how he beat Bama in 93
They had won like 30+ games in a row

Smoke wasn’t great, but he made the CWS twice in 6 seasons here. I can think of plenty of other coaches we’ve had that didn’t touch that level of success.

Goes to show what expectations can do for a coach. In 5 seasons he had an SEC title and 2 CWS appearances. Of course we had two 2 and Qs in the CWS and declined in his last year. But Curley sniffed a bowl once in four seasons but got crushed by Arky in the finale to lock in all losing seasons.

Mike Archer, LSU was a National Contender when he got the job, by the time he was fired LSU was a losing team.
Farmer Fran Orgeron is given way too much credit, he became a cartoon character after the National Championship

Pretty sure they had David Palmer (a wide receiver) play QB for much of the game.

Matt McMahon… he will leave LSU with the worst win% in 60+ years, the longest losing streak in program history and tied for the worst conf record in program history if he doesn’t break it this season. Hallman at least beat an elite team, McMahon will never get a win like 93 Alabama.

Brian Kelly, you’ll see after the next several years of poor recruiting, and underachieving
