A lot of folks are clearly salty he left. Are the numbers freakish? No. But all things considered, they get him into the 3rd round more than likely

I am by no means salty he left. I wish the best for him but middle of the pack combine numbers combined with bad tape isn't gonna get him anywhere near the 3rd round.

He had the 8th fastest 40 for a DT and is bigger than the ones that ran faster… lol again, that’s are great measurable. He’s at bare minimum the 3-4th biggest DT in the class.

Again, he isn't 330. the functional difference from a guy at 306 and a guy at 295 is nonexistent. He isn't a nose guard, hes a 3 tech or 5 tech and his numbers are very middle of the pack in all regards, not just the 40.

Like I said before, he didn't hurt his stock with this combine but he definitely didn't help it either. Wherever he was on draft boards prior to the combine is probably where he remains.

Same frame and size as Chris Jones who runs bout the same 40 time. I'm not saying he is the next CJ but the NFL is always looking for guys like MS. I bet he goes in Rd3 if he interviews well.

Chris Jones dominated in college. Being the same size and speed as a guy is great if your tape looks the same but in this case it doesn't.

Let me flip it around and ask this:

What measurable does Maason Smith have that others don't that y'all believe will make him a better draft prospect than the guys testing better than him, most of which have better tape at equally big schools?

If you put Mason Smith on a group of 5 team I guarantee Sean Payton is trading up to grab him in the first despite any projections.

I love all these fan's acting like someone Wingo and Mason's size running approx 4.86 to 5.02 commenting like that is slow time.

85% of you guys under 200lbs couldn't break a 5.0 sec

Smith made a horrible decision to leave. His chance of getting drafted is slim.

Lester, not only am I confident that I do know what I'm talking about, let me throw some stats about defensive tackles that have been drafted.

These are averages.
Height 6'3"
Weight 304
40 Time 5.04
3 Cone Drill 7.63
Broad Jump 9 feet
Vertical 29.5

Maason Smith graded damn near average across the board.
6'6" Height
304 Weight
5.01 40
31 Vert
9' Broad
Hasn't done the 3 cone yet.

What screams to you that this is good for Maason? The tape he put out last year was abysmal. Nothing right here jumps off the screen at you as being more impressive than anyone else on that draft board. Maason needed to show up and show out and he hasn't.

Let's just hope he didn't gamble in college, because right now, its Boutte 2.0.

For a normal human? Yes. Has anyone ever ran in the 6.0’s a played in the NFL?

1) no one said Wingo was slow. 4.86 is great time.

2) it doesn’t matter what I run in the 40 cuz im not in the NFL. The fact is that a 5.01 40 is average for an nfl DL.

If you understood you wouldn’t be asking. Again, you have median numbers with no context. Then you have height/weight adjusted numbers that give you a better idea of the athleticism.

Where do you think he’ll be drafted?

Have to imagine they will take into account his coaching was god-awful or literally nonexistent coming off a very difficult injury situation.

But we need to know their MPH. It’s all about the MPH.

Not a great time but heard the comments in the video there aren't guys at that size and length in the draft. My main take is he totally looks 100 % recovered from his injuries. He will go early 3rd to 4th round just because of his size.

He has no 'dog' mean in him, or I should say none that he has shown. Wingo will go ahead of him if he is even drafted. He has a lot of bad film to overcome.

The play he got hurt on against fsu , he disrupted the play by pushing 2 of their OL back in LOS-that was an unfortunate injury

I’m watching the highlights now and kinda pissed they couldn’t get both to return.

Wingo also has the fastest 10 yard split which is arguably more important for DTs than the 40.

Absolutely, when does a defensive tackle run a 40?
