No, they couldn't and you are a fricking idiot for even thinking they could. They would never be able to get the elite football (or most other sports) recruits enrolled because of their academic standards and if they lowered their academic standards they no longer become the Ivy League school they are now and would lose all financial backing from alumni.

Yes. Players and staff found out through ESPN/Twitter.

Duke finds enough players for basketball that sort of meet the criteria, and Georgetown in the 80's, I swear, used to have a waiver.

Fun fact: Princeton claims 28 national championships in football.

Order of importance at flsu:
1. Football
2. Spring football
3. Baseball
4. Softball
5. Women's basketball
6. Gator skinnin'
7. Crawfish suckin'
8. Home Shopping Network
9. Men's basketball (only if #8 is off-air)
This list is horrible. They didn't even put Gymnastics in, and everyone knows it comes before women's basketball. Also, lacrosse and underwater basket weaving comes before men's basketball. Crawfish suckin' is right below football. These people are morons!

Has it been reported what VCU countered with?

You mean the way the powerhouses came calling for Brady after he took LSU to the Final Four?
Oh wait...

Obviously I mean sustained success. Not one great year.

I don't see many VCU fans that are salty. A few here and there, but most understand and are just beat down from losing coach after coach.
That must be an awful feeling.

I agree. I couldn't resist taking a cheap shot at Brady. LSU will need to step up and pay Wade if he has sustained success.

The fact that Patrick Ewing got into Georgetown kills any claim to academic prowess they ever have touted or will ever tout.

I love how people think simply having the most money = you could win every sport if you wanted
I also love condescending people that scold others regarding the size of the endowment without realize a) what the endowment is (hint it is not necessarily a pile of cash) or b) how and what it is used for (typically not lavish spending on athletics).
LSU's AD made roughly $20M last year iirc, so what did VCU make? probably not close to that.
