Got a little bigger sample size to work with now, and even got some reps for the younger guys, so here's my take:

Offense:

Lets get Fournett out of the way first. I went to my first LSU game in 1965 and instantly became part of the lunatic fringe that is LSU fandom. I've seen em all, Alexander, Hilliard, Faulk, Hill etc. When my sons asked me after the game who is the greatest LSU running back, my answer was that Cecil Collins is the greatest HUMAN I have ever seen run the ball for LSU even though the sample size was small. Clearly Fournett is NOT a human, and is apparently escaped from a military testing facility that is building androids for war. I hope no one finds out before his eligiblity is up!

Williams is being used in the Hester/Hilliard role of TB/FB and is doing a fine job of it. Guice actually reminds me most of the aforementioned Cecil Collins with his build, quickness and penchant for running with so much violence. Brossett is going to struggle for playing time unless someone gets hurt. He is obviously talented, but in a more "pedestrian" way than Fournett/Guice. Hope he doesnt lose patience and transfer. Moore continues to impress at FB. He is not the banger that Quinn Johnson or Copeland were, but he is quick and almost always hits his target. On one of Buga's long TD runs he actually walled off a guy on the inside and then bounced off and hit a guy on the outside to create a lane for LF7. Great stuff!

I caught a lot of flack in last weeks post over my comment that Harris would come close to equalling Mett's 2013 performance. It was my fault since I didn't make my thoughts clear. I DO NOT expect Harris to put up passing numbers that approach what Mett did in 2013. I DO however, expect his overall IMPACT on the outcome of games to be near what Mett's was that year. His mobility and ability to extend plays, plus his running ability out of the spread, is a skillset that Mett did not possess. These qualities are already having an effect on our Red Zone efficiency. A QB who can run is a HUGE weapon near the goal line. As his passing comes along and his timing with the recievers improves, I think our passing game will be above average for the SEC this year. He still isn't "throwing them open" the way Mett did in 2013, but remember, by that year he had been together with OBJ and Landry and Boone for 3 YEARS! That's a lot of timing and chemistry that was developed and there just aren't any shortcuts for that. Harris will get better with every throw.

This offensive line is beastly, maybe the best I've ever seen at LSU. Pocic is doing things from his center position rarely seen from that spot. His combo blocks with Clapp have been things of beauty and he is getting to the second level better than any LSU center I have ever observed. I wasn't really on the Pocic bandwagon preseason, simply because I didn't think a 6'7" center could be great...I was wrong! Speaking of Clapp, I undersold him preseason as well. I had no idea he would be so athletic. He is not the pure road grader that Trai Turner was a couple years ago, but he is much quicker when pulling and he is MEAN! Vadal looked much better this game, than last, and he wasn't bad last game. Got to see him in pass pro a little more this game and he looks good there, also did a much better job getting his second level targets this game. I think as he rounds into mid-season shape he is going to be one of the best RT's in the SEC. Hawkins has no weakness to his game that I can see. He is big, quick, long armed and tenacious. He might be a little step down from Lael Collins when it comes to just driving his man off the ball in the running game, but he is quicker than Collins over all and is better in pass pro from what I have seen so far. Tueheuma is extremely talented, but he is a long way from how good he is going to be next year in my opinion. He still looks a little tentative at times, I'm sure because of inexperence, and his combo blocks with Pocic arent as polished as Clapp's are but he is in no way a weak spot at guard. He is powerful and quick and is getting better with every play.

Who saw Jeter coming? I know I didn't. He is a pretty good blocker as well as having much more speed than Gordon along with what appear to be decent hands. Smith will still be the guy on obvious passing downs, but Jeter might get more catches because he will be on the field more on early downs when play action passes to the TE might be called. We shall see.

Dural continues to impress me with his running skills. Usually a long strider like he is, isnt great at making guys miss, but he is very deceptive as a runner and the first guy almost never gets him. Hopefully the next few games will give us more chances to gauge our recievers performance.

I agree with pretty much all of this. This team has so much talent has the potential to be very, very special. I'm really excited about our offense. Claps and Teheuma are developing into monsters. You don't want to be on the other end of play when Pocic and Clapp are pulling and Moore is cleaning up behind them. I agree that if Harris continues to make plays with his legs and doesn't turn the ball over he can have as positive an impact as Mett did in 2013. Nice post. Oh and Fournette has an e on the end.

Having Fournette and Guice ready to take his place reminds me of Thurman Thomas backed up by Barry Sanders for Okie St in the late 80's. Both could end up being serious Heisman candidates. Behind this O-Line, we could be in for one of the best rushing LSU teams in history.

The only thing Guice is lacking is touches and he'll certainly earn more and more as the season progresses. Would love to see him used in the screen game particularly

I could see teams blitzing on third and long only to have Harris toss it to Guice on a screen pass and him wiggling his way 70 yards for a touchdown.

How long have you watched Les' LSU teams?

Awesome post OP. Man I don't want to jump the gun, but I feel like we have the best oline in SEC. I see everyone on that Oline becoming future NFLers.

So much NFL talent on this roster.

That's actually Harris' one obvious weakness.

Yeah I've noticed he doesn't excel at the screen game. Just doesn't throw those balls very well. Hopefully, he and the team figures it out and can draw up some screen plays to Guice though

A few pleasant surprises on O.

1. John David Moore is a man at FB. Dude uses great technique and never and I mean never makes a bad read on who to block. Looks to have great football IQ. I see some receptions coming his way after play action to LF7. Especially in the redzone.

2. Colin Jeter is a dual threat TE. Block and catch. When's the last time we had that at TE. Loved the play action TD he had. See more of that coming his way.

3. Mea Tehuema is starting as True Freshman and pancacking upperclassmen already. Most of LF7 big runs went left. When he locks on to you, you done. MT has a very bright career ahead with some All-SEC teams.

I vividly remember plenty of swing screens to Richard Murphy

I agree. Let's hope they all decide to stay throughout and win a couple of titles.

Ace, I don't know about you, but just going from memory, I can't come up with a single LSU line that I ever watched that had all 5 starters that had pro potential. From where I sit, all 5 of these guys will be drafted, that will be a first for LSU as far as I know!

This right here is what I am excited about. LSU isn't throwing right now but Jeter get's me excited. Really want to see DeSean get in on the action as well.

Whitworth is probably a small step above any of this years 5, but I would take Pocic, Clapp, Alexander, and Teheuma over, Wilkerson, Peterson, Niswanger and Reed. I will say though, Wilkerson was the best LSU center I ever saw before he got hurt, but Pocic looks to me to be very similar if not better!
