I grew up in Vermilion Parish. Most of the residents were Cajun. They could call each other Coon arse. But if someone who was not Cajun directed that term to a Cajun then there was a significant chance of a severe disagreement that could lead to a fight.
This never happened

She wanted to go to a place where she can sing Cash Money in peace

horrendous journalism characteristic of both Scott Rabalais and the Advocate
Rabalais is the worst. I recall reading one of his articles several years ago where he quoted Samuel Clemens and butchered the quote so bad it was laughable.
Welcome Alexis Jeffery to LSU.

Glad she stood up for herself and hopefully she has a great experience at LSU.
This type of thing is going to become more and more common. The 'N' word is used in mainstream music everywhere. I know it is faux pas for white people to sing along with those songs but tell that to young kids who don't see color or even know what it means.
Having to preemptively address this with little white kids feels like a big step backwards. Maybe it's just me...

So because the teammate was white they cannot sing this song? Uh I’m pretty sure their is a word for that. Oh yea racism!
You wouldn’t sing that word around black people and you know it.

"According to team sources, the conflict began early in the fall when several gymnasts heard a teammate who is not Black sing lyrics that included the N-word. Two other teammates who heard about the incident and additional use of the N-word approached the gymnast who had sung the lyrics to help her understand why her teammates were offended and seek an apology."
maybe the hip hop community shouldn't romanticize the word the black community doesn't want others outside that community to say. Singing along with mainstream songs being played shouldn't result in being ridiculed. The funniest part about it, however, is, based on the quote from the article, these teammates didn't hear her say anything but rather heard a rumor she said the n-word while signing to a rap song. It also says they sought an apology but didn't say whether she actually apologized. Regardless, pretty shitty to bully someone to that level regardless of what happened. Telling her she should kill herself and putting rotting fish in her locker is a lot worse than anything she was alleged to have done. It's also hypocritical as hell, and honestly racist, for people to say someone isn't allowed to say something because of the race they are but people of another race can say the same thing. Maybe if we eliminated the accepted use of that word by anyone, then these types of issues would have some semblance of consistency

Call it what you want but it does look bad. It’s looks bad in the same extend that Coach O lost a core of his African American players when he supported Trump openly.
That was completely stupid. So you are saying it looks bad on the flip side when black players openly supported Obama? Damn I miss the days when everyone was allowed to support the candidate or politician or party of their choice because that is how how our country was built.

I am of the opinion that the amount of offense a person takes to a word is directly proportional to their lack of intelligence.
I'm Irish and have heard my heritage being disparaged all my life. If it's a funny comment, I laugh. If it's stupid, I ignore it.
People want to be offended and look for reasons to be outraged. They're losers and are wasting their lives.

People need to learn that just something offends them does not make it a rule for everyone else.
Bingo. For one, there is no "rule" that no one should ever have to face being offended by something. That's called life. Second, if it's so offensive, then they shouldn't be using that word so liberally in the entertainment sector and in normal conversation.

People have become too comfortable labeling other people and things as racist that they can't even find real racism when it slaps them in the face.
People in this generation have no idea what racism actually is anymore.

Imagine thinking it looks bad for someone saying nice things about a sitting president. That's how arse backwards our country has become. Not to mention, what Orgeron said was an extremely benign comment he would have likely said about any president in the office after returning from a trip at the White House. "I love president Trump. He treated us very well when we went to the White House. I think he's doing a fantastic job." The horror

Why are the lyrics in the song at all if it's wrong to sing them yourself? Cancel culture is bullshite. Welcome to the land of the free and out California. Que Boosie for the girl.

I agree. I read the whole article, and have no idea what Rabalais is actually reporting. All I really got was that the gymnast is transferring to LSU. Why? I haven't a clue.

The UCLA gymnasts on the podcast say it was the other way around. That AJ threatened to harm herself, they did not tell her to kill herself. And they completely deny putting fish in her bag or anywhere else. Someone isn’t telling the truth. If AJ was completely truthful with Jay, ACK, and everyone else who talked with her prior to her being accepted here, then fine. Let her stay. But if she lied to them about any of it, then she should not be here.

There is no way in hell I would remove this problem from UCLA and bring it to LSU. Not a smart move in my opinion.
LSU's gymnasts voted unanimously to accept her. Looks like our girls just offered up a teachable moment to the rest of the country.

I wonder how many people would really be upset if the next earthquake separated California from the United States
