Lol clowned my was not that good. He was physically gifted and but he didn’t have much else.

Now Marcus lattimore on the other hand. Yeah he was fricking amazing, he put the damn team on his back as fricking freshman. Shame what happened to him, story like Ben Wilkerson, Marcus lattimore, Willis mcgahee are the reason no matter how I feel I can’t hold it against a player that decides to go pro early or skip a bowl game they are not all in on. It sucks I may bitch but I understand and wish I could have seen Ben leave after his junior year and go make some money. He was the best center I have ever seen at leu and it’s not close, I would put him over most every 1st round center I have ever seen drafted since I been following.

Reading back, I realize I didn’t specify college football. I ain’t thinking pro career. And I may not have stressed the “pound for pound” aspect as much as I assumed I had. And it wasn’t just the plays he made, it was WHEN he made them. When they almost literally HAD to be made to turn, save, or just outright win a game. And this was clearly a thread meant to encourage discussion. I obviously have not studied every college player of all time and their production relative to their sizes. (But there were some really really bad takes in this thread. fricking Clowney? GTFO.)

I was just watching some highlights and thought, as great as we still remember he was here 11 and 12 years later, was he actually even better? Is it possible he’s underrated?

why has he never been used as a punt returner in the league?

He grew out of it pretty fast. He was never gonna be an NFL punt returner with some of the freak athletes they have in that league. He wasn’t even an elite athlete for a CFB punt returner. It was his instincts, visions, and he’ll, maybe sheer will.

Can’t tell if you still talking pound for pound or overall. Bc overall, this is not correct. Even if you only watched SEC football the last 35 years. Not even close

We crushed everyone that year. Sure, you can argue some of his plays turned the tide. But go look at those scores. Outside of Alabama, we beat everyone by double digits. He was the player maker for sure but it was a team effort.

he’s absolutely in the discussion for SEC only last 35 years.

he may not be THE best, but at worst there’s an argument.

What I remember is that the 2011 defense was so strong we needed only 10 men to cover the field. This gave TM7 the ability to spotlight anywhere on the field. That's why he caused so many fumbles and interceptions.

Brandon Taylor doesn’t get enough credit for ALWAYS having TM7 back.
A safety that is almost never out of position allows a CB to gamble like a mother fricker.

The GOAT Tiger before Burrow showed up.

To this day we have never seen a player like him.

Could break a game wide open at any second.

You are delusional. In no way TM7 is in the discussion for the best SEC football player in the last 35 years.

I can make an argument that he isn’t the best DB on LSU squad while at LSU. Do you remember Patrick Peterson?

What’s amazing about HB is how he has so many highlights that leave you in awe but none of them are physically amazing it’s more just how smart that dude is

Instinct. The most instinctive football player I have ever seen. Nothing like him.

Every time I watch his highlights I just start smiling. What a player.

Ignore the deniers.

"Best" is subjective so it's hard to quantify. But as one who's been watching LSU football over 50 years Tyrann Mathieu was an original.

There has never been a player at any level that played with his instinct. Can't measure that but only observe and we were privileged to see him in P&G while we did.

That is so hard to say but I will say this. He is the instinctive football player I have ever seen at any level.
