Despite a 15-point home loss to Tennessee on Wednesday night, the LSU basketball team was a No. 10 seed on two projected NCAA tournament brackets Thursday morning.

LSU remained a No. 10 seed in the Midwest regional in the eyes of ESPN.com bracketologist Joe Lunardi, who now has the Tigers playing seventh-seeded San Diego State in Omaha, Nebraska.

CBSSports.com bracket expert Jerry Palm dropped LSU from an eight seed to 10th on his bracket. Palm has the Tigers facing No. 7 seed St. John’s in the West regional in Louisville, Kentucky.

As expected, however, LSU dropped out of the top 50 in the RPI rankings of both Websites.

LSU is now 54th on ESPN.com and 55thon CBSSports.com’s list. The Tigers have an 11-6 record against teams in the ESPN.com top 100.

Still in, for now. Could get screwed by a rash of mid-major regular season champs getting bounced in their conference tournie and gobbling up the at large bids.

However, should be safe for now. No margin for error. Would be great to win on Saturday, if not, absolutely must have a solid showing in Nashvegas.

If it dropped us to a 10 seed, I'm happy about the loss. I'd MUCH rather be a 10 seed over a 8/9.

I've NEVER understood this line of thought.

Play to win every game. Higher seed means we will play a lower seed in the first round.

All this agonizing about who we might play in later rounds depending on our seed, just let it go. Play hard, win games, and keep trying to advance. Stop worrying about what's down the road. There's so much chaos in the NCAA tourney that I don't worry about what's beyond the next game.

But being happy that we lost to TN because we might be a lower seed just seems ridiculous to me.

Which mid major teams outside of Gonzaga or Wichita St. or SMU have won the conference as teams that were already locks for the tourney?

Wait, I thought Wichita St. already won the MVC, and even then as long as either one of those win the conference tournament, there isn't anything to worry there.

Yeah, my bad.

I read it as mid majors who were locks for the tourney.

Need to get my comprehension skills up.

I don't know. A&M is ahead of us and their resume just got destroyed by LSU's loss. I think it will take a day or two for all of the effects from this game sinking in with the brackets. Does the NCAA Committee even look at those rankings or do they build the whole thing from scratch?

We are in fifth place in a division where the 3rd place team's resume doesn't look good enough. We are also 5-5 in our last 10, which isn't great.

I bet not. I had hoped that the 12-12 and 11-11 games would go to regular season mid-major champs that did not win tourney but instead they go to 19-11 7th place finishers in Big10/ACC.

A win for LSU saturday would help solve a lot of problems. I hope just once the team can come through and win a game that would help the resume immensely.

A win Sat would be huge and nothing this team does will surprise me good or bad. Also the notion of losing to avoid higher seeds is ludicrous. Hey if the Tigers lose the next two they will avoid playing any good team.

They are 0-6 against top 50 teams. It is difficult to have someone in the tournament with an at-large bid with no wins against a top 50 RPI ranked team.

If Texas A&M doesn't get in, then theres no way to justify taking LSU. Even though we have so called top 50 RPI wins, our horrible (and I do mean horrible losses) should cancel those out. Which leaves the rest of our resume looking like crap. If A&M finishes ahead of us, which they will, and beat us head to head (twice), which they did, then A&M should go before LSU.

LSU will play better Saturday, maybe even be in the game, but they WILL NOT, I repeat, NOT beat the piggies at home!! And you can bookmark this!!!

The lower the team drops the more chance that a MID Major can come in and bump them out.

He might be overly dramatic about LSU's chances, but Texas A&M will be a hard sell to get into the tournament outside of their conference record, which should get them in. However, their resume being so weak, it really limits how far below them in the conference you can go to select teams.

The real nightmare scenario would be if a team like Miss State, Tennessee or Florida get hot and win the SEC Tournament. That still counts as an automatic bid, right?

Yeah, winning the conference tourney is an automatic bid. Our biggest worry is if these average mid majors teams win their conference tourney and take up more spots in the dance.
