I have faith in Chavis to keep the LB's playing well. Minter will do just fine. The leadership will be missed though. Hopefully someone else steps up.

I've been saying this myself for awhile now. And to tell you the truth, I think the next toughest to replace is Jasper. He's almost automatic plus he's quite the athlete and has made some more fakes in a season than I've ever seen any other kicker make in a career.

We lose virtually nothing off offense. Defense will miss Nevis and especially PP7 but I feel like the young guys are more than enough to keep the D strong. But a coach on the field like KS just cannot be replaced. I think Minter will be a fine player, but no one is gonna be KS.

From a talent standpoint, you are correct.

But, it's foolish to ignore the intangibles like leadership.

By all accounts, Sheppard is the leader of the defense. I'm not sure who will step into that role.

Peterson and Nevis will go down as 2 of the best at their position in university history. Shep is right there, but he is the 3rd best player on the defense and is easiest one to replace of the 3(not trying to down play it.....All 3 were great Tigers. The other 2 more important to the team overall, imo).

I guess you can call him the "leader of the D" cause he made all the calls, but that doesnt mean much to me. It's the job of any LB that plays that position.

Kelvin Sheppard will be hard to replace because he has a trait that is very rare. He has a tremendous amount of heart. I'm not talking the heart that says he loves his team, loves the game, blah blah blah. I'm talking the kind of heart that says: "I am willing to do anything and everything I can do to make myself and everyone else around me better for this team." Kelvin cannot be replaced and will be sorely missed.

He is the go getter, the guy who rallies the defense when needed, the guy that gets the rest fired up and ready to make a play. While Peterson and Nevis are solid as bricks, KS is the cement that makes the bricks a wall. The best definition of a football leader is one who makes others players nut up and shine in tough situations. Our 10 wins are from the defense. KS may have called the plays, but his leadership provided much more. As
Always our next stud LB will step in and play well, but filling KS's role wont be as easy of a task.

just because he is the "leader" doesnt mean he is the hardest one to replace

Nevis was a 1 man pass rush all season on a line with few bright spots

Peterson locked down one side of the field and continously put us in good field position with his returns.

I think Peterson is hands down the best corner to ever play at LSU, but we have some damn good youngsters in the secondary. They will not be as good as Peterson but I feel comfortable saying that Mathieu and Claiborne will be better than Francois and Minter (or Barrow). Same with Brockers/Edwards/Johnson replacing Nevis in the middle.

The question about who is tougher to replace probably has more to do with the back-ups in question rather than the actual star, with the exception of guys like Tebow who just dominate so much of the team with their playing style.

He has been tremendous for the LSU but in the NFL i see him having difficulty. Good size but maybe alittle slow and problems getting off blockers. I guess he goes in the late 3rd or 4th round. Not much upside but will be consistent player.

we'll see how those guys do next year.

I love Claiborne, he has played great opposite of Peterson. Im anxious to see if he can keep it up as our #1 guy.

I think Minter can be as good a Shep, or at least close to it. Ryan Baker has been one of our better defenders this year as well.

Our DL has been pretty average, esp after Montgomery went down. Nevis has been the lone guy to get pressure on the QB. Mathieu has probably been our 2nd best pass rusher.

Yeah, the most successful packages were with Baker, Mingo, or Mathieu blitzing. We'll continue to see that for the next 2-3 years, and we have a lot of young D-linemen who should continue to improve. Edwards stepped up the last few games, and I think Downs and Montgomery should be solid starters as well next year.

Maybe I am too down on Minter, but when I watched him play, he looked lost on most plays and couldn't wrap up the running backs. Sheppard's best strength is that he rarely gets lost. Hell, it looks like he is telling Stefoin Francois were to go half the time.

Kelvin will be difficult to replace but Minter is a hell of a tackler so I think we're not going to drop off there. Peterson is a once in lifetime cornerback and Mo had a great year because he played opposite to PP7 but Mo is a great player as well. Nevis will be the most difficult to replace because everyone knows that it starts up front and its hard to replace a all-sec DT
