Saturday night we ran 83 total offensive plays. It will be interesting to watch this stat moving forward. We could argue about whether the offense has changed, but there is no argument that we played sense of urgency and the pace was little quicker. You could also argue we held the ball for a long time, too.

It will be interesting to see if we can match that play count this weekend. Last year LSU was last in the SEC in plays per game on the road at a putrid 57 per.

Right now we are 110th in the country at 67 plays per game for 12th in SEC. Only South Carolina and Kentucky are worse. We were last in the SEC before this past weekend.

Beautiful, long, sustained drives. Killed them in ToP

Vs SEC opp we are 5th in the league
vs Power 5 we are 4th

We had a ton of 3 and outs in the Wisconsin game and we were 2-10 for 3rd downs. Since DE has taken over our 3rd down eff. has improved greatly.

Missouri's first series was a 3 and out that only took 19 seconds off the clock. Even when LSU sputtered on offense, they still held onto the ball for several minutes. It really seemed to keep the defense fresh, and it was nice to see guys flying around out there for 60 minutes.

The teams will get tougher plus have film of the new offensive philosophy. The adjustments that the offense can make will be interesting. Hopefully they wont dial it back and try to go MIles-style with run heavy.

The stats you are looking at are skewed. Thats for total plays. They don't account for plays per game. For instance Arkansas is last in that stat because they've only played 1 conference game.

Look here.

I'm with you on this but as time goes on, our coaches will continue installing more offensive wrinkles as well. Now, at some point this will even out. But I like the way this is unfolding. Opposing coaches really have very little to go on as far as tendencies.

Except for the first Guice TD, LSU didn't have a ton of big plays. They did, however, do a good job of keeping the chains moving, mostly on the ground. LSU running the ball so well coupled with Mizzou not being able to do anything out of the hurry up led to the huge TOP discrepancy.

LSU and O want still want to push the ball deep. I don't think they really care about TOP if they are hitting big pass plays. However, the difference was that LSU was willing to use the whole field on 3rd and medium to get the first down rather than the Miles approach to the passing game of making certain to avoid at TO at the expense of realistically attempting to convert a 3rd down.

We are still a run heavy offense. As far as yards go, 70% were rushing yards.

In terms of # of plays called, 30 passes, and 57 running plays. Not quite 50/50.

I liked that our passing game opened up our running game. They complemented each other well, and even with the # of incomplete passes we had, they still had to respect the fact that LSU was willing to throw the ball.
