Some of these big names were legends at their sport@LSU but that doesnt mean they were one of the best athletes.

FIFY

I guess it is partly perspective- I tend to look at the athlete's complete career including the pros- but if we only want to discuss the athlete while at LSU then - yes you will get a different group of players.

Ben McDonald only played baseball,

Google is your friend.

Two years in Brown’s program, mixed with spring runs with Bertman’s Tigers at Alex Box Stadium left McDonald with a tough decision.

“Ben might be the best overall athlete who ever came through LSU athletic program,” Bertman said. “After two years in basketball he came to baseball full time. In high school, he was naturally in three sports, and for someone to play two sports at such a high level tells a lot about his athletic ability. Ben was a good player for Dale, but baseball was his best sport.

McDonald’s decision to forego his basketball scholarship meant that Bertman had time to accelerate his young pitcher’s development in fall workouts. Already named to one All America team after his sophomore season, Bertman watched McDonald’s potential develop into Major League talent.

Ok folks, looks like people went a bit over the top on the meaning of athlete.

I wanted to know Top 5 Greatest Sports Stars LSU has ever had, not just on athleticism. Some of you got it and answered accordingly.

I apologize for the misunderstanding.

How you been Josh?

LOL kinda joking because Josh was a terrific athlete but never really amounted to much at LSU.

Try rereading the whole thread again and get back to me.

I have already addressed and corrected myself

And the point was Dalton Hilliard has to be mentioned as one of the greatest RBs at LSU

lol, since when do you have to be an athlete to be a bobsledder? You run exactly 30 feet and then jump in for the ride.

Chris Jackson should be #1 or 2 then

Most Celebrated Freshman of all time

Became the fifth LSU men's basketball player to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft, as the Denver Nuggets took him as the third overall pick ... Joined "Pistol" Pete Maravich (No. 3 by Atlanta Hawks, 1970), Howard Carter (No. 15 by Denver Nuggets, 1983), Jerry Reynolds (No. 22 by Milwaukee Bucks, 1985) and John Williams (No. 12 by Washington Bullets, 1986) as LSU's all-time NBA first-round picks (through 1990) ... Later, Stanley Roberts (No. 23 by Orlando Magic, 1991), Shaquille O'Neal (No. 1 by Orlando Magic, 1992), Geert Hammink (No. 26 by Orlando Magic, 1993) and Stromile Swift (No. 2 by Vancouver Grizzlies, 2000) were selected in the first round.

Ok, here's a little opine that should enlighten a few
Willie Simms- this guy was a role player for dale brown, but he had a motor that never quit. Late in a game he was all over the court defensively. Played for years in Israeli league, which ain't the nba, but does tax you physically.
Rickey Blanton- played every position on the court. Not many can do that.
Mike Anderson - I was in high school with him and he could do ANYTHING he wanted in any sport. All state full back and middle linebacker, playing both ways, and kicked extra points. All state center in basketball. And at one time held the state record in javelin, discus and shot put. I never saw him play baseball, as it conflicted with track, but I was told he could hit it a country mile. Helluva nice guy too. He was a senior to my freshman and he was nice to me when he had no reason to be.
