Other programs like Texas is paying for playmakers AND supporting cast. Their OL players get minimum 50k a year.

Re-read this… this is such a scummy place that college football has come to.

Yeah sure, if I owned Nike or Walmart or an oil company, I’d may as well give substantial part of my earnings to LSU athletics to “buy” more players and championships if this is the game now.

Sadly, I have bills to pay and kids to feed. I apologize I can’t make more meaningful contributions. Sorry

Are contributions tax deductible? If I give $1k, will a highschool recruit wear a T shirt with my face on it?

Again

The money paid to players does not come from the college

Colleges cannot be associated with the paying of players

For players to get paid, they generally get it two ways-
From a collective-

Money is given to a collective from individuals and business. The collective makes deals with players. Whoever runs the collective decides who get paid and how much. The collective can use the players name image and likeness as they see fit.

From a business- a business hires a player to do promo’s or whatever in exchange for money.

The problems that have been found are that players sometimes don’t uphold their end of the deal. The don’t show up for promo or other agreed upon activity. Sometimes players transfer. Business gets frustrated. Suing the player for breach of contract is generally out of the question.

Then there’s payment under the table. Dark money. That still exists.

The college is out of the loop in all transactions

Not all collectives are as focused on football but in case you haven’t noticed, SMU’s getting better in football.
Otherwise, NIL isn’t perfect everywhere. It depends on who’s running the collective. Sometimes they’re inept

I’m sorry, but this is stupid.

NIL is being funded by the ultra wealthy and larger corporations. To think average individuals will have an impact is foolish.

The problem I have with the collective is

1. How much of the money makes it to the player?

2. Who runs the collective and decides where the money goes?

It is not like there would be corruption in this state. We just operate in the gray!

I’m not bitching nor do IGAF. The ruination of CFB does’t inspire me to contribute my $$$ to kids who could leave the next day, playing for the highest bidder in a scenario with near zero structure.

It’s pissing your $$$ away and contributing to the demise of the sport overall. FTS

These collectives are nothing more than slush funds for whoever runs them to gain influence and wealth. These people don't care about players making money on NIL. They care about selling a pipe dream to fans to make them donate money. This is a scam like anything else. Its just wrapped up in something people are passionate about.

These collectives are not what NIL was supposed to be but the Genie is out of the bottle now.

A lot of our fanbase is very uninformed about how NIL works also.

You’ll have countless posters on TD that say their $20 purchase at the concession stand was their contribution (doesn’t go to NIL).

They’ll say they already made their TAF donation (doesn’t go to NIL).

They’ll say the buy season tickets (doesn’t go to NIL).

LSU $ & TAF $ are not NIL $.

Just imagine if we could get 5 former players to donate.

Shaq
Joe Burrow
Odell
Bregman
Mathieu

Angel Reese & Livvy Dunne have done more for Bayou Traditions than any other LSU athletes

Thanks for posting. This is interesting.

Can someone explain why a team like AR is #8 on this list and not in the top 20 in recruiting rankings?
