Irrelevant to the point. And you know that.

so losing 2 games to inferior oppoents is the same as losing 1 to the team you're going to play in the national title?

2 is never equal to 1 and never will be

You refuse that Bama's back in job was the most egregious in history

Or that Saban has had a tremendous amount of luck

More irrelevance. Bama backed in and didn't even win their division that year. Deal with it.

Prove me wrong. He has needed someone to lose on the last day of the season 3/4 times

2009 - Undefeated, ranked #1, beat UF in SEC Championship game. LINK

2011 - Was ranked outside of the top 2 for only 2 weeks. Regained the #2 spot in Week 12, and maintained it for Weeks 12, 13, and 14 prior to the National Championship. LINK

2012 - Started ranked #1, started 9-0, regained the #2 position in Week 12. Maintained it for Weeks 12, 13, and 14 - prior to the National Championship. Beat UGA in SEC Championship Game. LINK

Really, the only rational argument for Saban "backing into" the National Championship game was in 2011. But we had overtaken the #2 spot with several weeks to go in the CFB season. If you remember, OSU lost to a really bad Iowa State team, and the only reason there was even a debate at the end of the year was because of how badly OSU beat Oklahoma to end the season.

What in the frick? Bama LSU and Arky were 1,2,3 at one point that season, and Arky's only 2 losses were to, you guessed it, the 2 teams in their division who finished 1&2 in the nation.

Arkansas beat one team that ended the season ranked after the year was over and lost badly to the other two teams that remained ranked at years end.

They were a product of a shitty schedule, not a legitimate top 5 team.

LNBOX's theory. Yes. Saban won with Shula's players.

I was wrong on 2012, thought they moved up to 2 later. But in 2003 if Oklahoma beats kansas st, Oklahoma and USC play for championship. Saban backed ino that one (thankfully). He also pulled the ultimate back-in in 2011. So 2/4 times. I stand corrected

They played 5 teams when they were ranked. A ranked team usually falls when they get beat.

No need to correct yourself. If a team does not go undefeated, they needed help to get into the National Title game, and backed into it. It's as simple as that.
