What he has done at his stops:
Sam Houston State
After completing his graduate assistant position, Herman joined Sam Houston State as wide receivers coach twice sparking the Bearkats to Southland Conference championships and the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. In his first season at Sam Houston State, Herman coached Jonathon Cooper, who was named the NCAA Division I-AA Wide Receiver of the Year. Herman produced all-conference receivers in each season and produced three All-American wide receivers.
In 2004, they finished 11-3 and advanced to the Division I-AA championship's semifinals. The Bearkats' offense was ranked second nationally in passing offense, averaging 358.5 yards, while the Bearkats' 471 yards of total offense ranked fifth among Division I-AA schools.[2]

Texas State
After four seasons at Sam Houston State, Herman joined Texas State as the offensive coordinator in 2005. During his two seasons at Texas State his squads led the Southland Conference in total offense and the 2005 team ranked eighth nationally in scoring. The Bobcats went on to make a deep run in the NCAA in the team's first ever Division I-AA appearance, while Barrick Nealy finished fifth in the voting for the Walter Payton Award (top offensive player in Division I-AA).[2]
quote:
Rice
In 2007, Herman then followed head coach David Bailiff from Texas State to form the new coaching staff at Rice. With a reputation for engineering high-powered offensive attacks, Herman’s offense smashed nearly 40 offensive records during his first season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Owls.[citation needed]
Rice ranked in the Top 10 nationally in 2008 in passing offense (5th; 327.8), scoring offense (T8th; 41.6) and total offense (10th; 472.3). Two Rice receivers had more than 1,300 yards receiving that year, tight end James Casey had 111 catches and quarterback Chase Clement was the Conference USA MVP.[2][3]
quote:
Iowa State
After building of one of the nation’s most prolific offenses at Rice, Herman joined the Iowa State as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.[1][4] Herman installed his system and brought new life into the offense.
During his three seasons at Iowa State, the offense improved considerably and broke numerous team and player school records.[citation needed] Iowa State's 52 points in a win over Texas Tech marked the most points put up by the Cyclones against a conference opponent in 38 years. Iowa State quarterback Austen Arnaud ended his career as the Cyclones No. 2 all-time leading passer with 6,777 yards and 42 touchdown passes. His 8,044 yards of total offense is the second-best total in school history. Running back Alexander Robinson finished his Iowa State career as the Cyclones' fourth all-time leading rusher with 3,309 yards.[5]
quote:
Ohio State
On December 9, 2011, Urban Meyer selected Herman as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Buckeyes.[6] On December 9, 2014, after leading Ohio State's fourth ranked offense while playing two backup quarterbacks, Herman was awarded the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top assistant coach.[7]
quote:
Houston
On December 15, 2014, Herman was hired by Houston as its new head football coach. As of late-November 2015, he has led his No. 21 AP Poll ranked team to a 10–1 start.[8]
He sets records everywhere he goes.
Broyles award winner.
Mensa member (not football related but very impressive.)

Guy is super impressive.

Agreed, this should be our guy if Jimbo doesn't work out.
Probably should be our guy regardless.

Really like him for what he has done on the field and if Jimbo falls through and we get Herman I wouldn't be the least bit disappointed.
Any idea how he is perceived as a recruiter?

Chip Kelly = #1(a)
Jimbo Fisher = #1(b)
Tom Herman is the best of the bunch after those two.

You should just go ahead and give up on Herman, there is no way that he will be our coach

Herman is a damn strong candidate and would be a huge asset for our Texas recruiting efforts.
Posted on 11/27/15 at 12:44 pm to CBandits82
That would be a good hire based on his performance and winning recipe wherever he goes.
However those Tiger fans bashing Elleva would hurt their little pusses on that one
Jimbo
Herman
Patterson
Kelly
We need a good Def Coordinator where Jimbo proved he can build a solid Defense and especially Patterson with a huge defensive history, but what he did is go from a similar LSU up the middle offense to a Chip Kelly like system where in one year they turned it around when Boykin started. Why Les could not see what TCU did last year and implement that with his strong running game. He would have only one loss and be coaching till the end of his contract !!!
Those coaches above I have no problem with.

I like Herman a lot tbh. Wouldn't mind him at all. It's a bit of a projection because he's only got a year under his belt but he's really good at what he does.

Want. I like Jimbo and certainly wouldn't be upset if we land him but is rather roll the dice with Hermann. Neither are a guarantee.

I have had many a OSU fan tell me they want him back as their O-Coordinator.

What do you know that would allow you to make such a statement?
Is it your opinion or a fact based on knowledge that no one else has?

He got Houston to 36 his first year there which is a huge accomplishment.
quote:
Herman's massive success in Columbus netted him the head job at Houston before this season, where he's already building something nobody should ever be able to build at Houston. In addition to early on-field success, Herman's got the Cougars at the No. 36 recruiting class for 2016, which is three spots better than Maryland's best class in recent memory, which also happens to be for 2016.
quote:
Herman is a fiendish recruiter. He's already bagged a commitment from five-star defensive tackle Ed Oliver, which is notable because it isn't supposed to happen. Houston shares a state with Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and Baylor. Five-star prospects don't play for the Cougars, except Herman's already convinced one to do exactly that. It took him no time at all. Beyond that, he's put together a deep class of three-star prospects who should help Houston stay near the top of any non-power conference team rankings for the foreseeable future. As an added bonus, he's used to recruiting in Big Ten country, which Maryland now inhabits.
He's also a quarterback whisperer. Herman obviously had a lot of talent on his Ohio State teams, but it's nothing short of remarkable that he was able to prepare J.T. Barrett on short notice to lead the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff after Braxton Miller got hurt before last season. It's even more incredible that he got Cardale Jones ready to beat Alabama in his second career start, then Marcus Mariota and Oregon in his next one. Herman could've had Johnny Unitas himself under center, and that would've been impressive. Give him a spin with Maryland four-star commit Dwayne Haskins, and Herman could make some beautiful music.

This is a Maryland page explaining why Herman is so sought after but it makes some great points.
I have a want..

Herman has such a balanced offense. In this game he has called 28 pass plays and 27 running plays. UH has 192 passing yards and 141 rushing yards and 2 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns. I like the way UH runs the ball too out of the shotgun. Not your traditional spread running game. It is downhill running and he pulls lineman to almost utilize a power run out of the shotgun.

For me, Tom Herman is THE guy we should go after.
1) Herman
2) Fisher
3) Fuente

I know that there is no way alleva is going to risk his job on someone who hasn't even been a head coach for a full season yet
