Mud duck

Congratulations to former tiger Todd McClure
Great honor.
Not bad for a 7th round draft pick.
Always loved watching him play as both a tiger and falcon fan.

I think he was the first recruiting commitment Gerry Dinardo got at LSU.

Great career in college and pros. Congrats Todd!

I don’t think he even played OL in high school at Central. He played TE and was a good defensive lineman. He was part of DiNardo’s first recruiting class.

DiNardo had a lot of shortcomings, but he inherited a terrible roster. He quickly began infusing talent back into the program. His first class included Kevin Faulk, Booger McFarland, Herb Tyler and Todd McClure.

McClure was a developmental recruit at the time. An undersized prospect that hopefully could provide some much needed OL depth after a couple of years in the program.

LSU was so thin in 1995 that McClure’s redshirt was ripped off, and he was forced into playing time. He was far from an SEC caliber player as a true freshman, and it was obvious at times early in his career, but he was earning SEC honors by his Junior season.

His pro career started out much the same way. A 7th round pick that the Falcons hoped would make the team and provide OL depth. He was a starter halfway though his rookie season, and anchored the Falcons offensive line for the next 12 years.

Congratulations to a former Tiger that exceeded expectations throughout his career. LSU has put a lot of players in the NFL, but few have had a career that surpasses McClure’s.

Ehhh. Kinda average/ lacking depth, yes. Terrible, no. Off the top of my head, some notables he inherited:

Shedd
Kennison
Faneca
Kendall Cleveland
Gillyard
Denard Walker
Tory James
Gabe Northern
Lafleur

Those last couple of Curley years you kinda felt we had the talent to at least be bowl eligible, just couldn't quite get over the hump.

One of the most down to earth, cool, funny mfers I know. Couldn’t have happened to a better dude. He makes me mad representing Zachary as a Central dude… but that shows you the love he has for his kids. And he has fun with it. Lol

Great video! As much as I hate the falcons, those are some great dudes and glad to see them have a great bond with each other and it is a family when you are in a team.

He was a year ahead of me in high school. Very nice guy and not so full of himself like other big athletes at Central during that time.

I used to see Todd and Trey at their grandfather Archie's house when their family was big into coaching Biddy Basketball. He was a middle schooler then and was obviously built much differently than his brother. Both great athletes. Glad for Todd even if he did play for the dirty birds.

I got to shoot the shite with him for a while at a PR event before a super bowl. (The year the Pats came in undefeated.) He was as down to earth as could be and we talked mostly about Kevin Faulk's awesomeness and his most underappreciated plays while in college. Salt of the earth guy.

Pretty amazing that he's in the Falcons ring of honor.
