LSU's defense played very well but got almost no help from an offense that regressed significantly after appearing to have improved in the final stretch of the regular season. They allowed 445 yards but stopped Clemson the first three times it had the ball in the second half. Clemson ran 34 plays in the fourth quarter against a gassed Tiger defense.

With quarterback Zach Mettenberger sacked six times, there was no chemistry with the receivers and no offensive rhythm. LSU was afraid to run the ball, toting it one time in six fourth-quarter plays.

That makes two consecutive post-season stink bombs LSU has set off, but that was Alabama and this was Clemson. LSU was cowed into not believing enough in its running game to try and get two yards in two tries with the game on the line.

Hill didn't touch the ball in the fourth quarter when the Tigers had 1 yard of offense.

Bowl losses have typically led to very good seasons for LSU football.

Pass attempts definitely takes touches away from the running game...The Chick Fila bowl was kind of a Damn if you do...damned if you dont situation...

in the bama loss the coaching staff got reamed because they did not pass on 4th and 1 instead electing to run the wildcat...here they get reamed in the Chik Fila bowl loss because they decide to throw on 4th and 2 instead of run!!!

its a wonder these guys dont lose there mind trying to please this fan base

Fans didn't either until we lost.

Had we won, the Rant would've been filled with "We should have beat Bama" threads.

Bowl loss--ensuing season record, final ranking

2012 Lost to Clemson--??, ??
2011 Lost to Alabama--10-3, 12/14
2009 Lost to Penn State--11-2, 8/8t
2004 Lost to Iowa--11-2, 5/6
2002 Lost to Texas--13-1, 1/2

If you consider 2010 and 2012 "very good seasons", then yes, you are right. Otherwise, it seems a mixed bag for LSU following a bowl loss lately.

Bottom line: After all the talk we heard about how the no-show in the 2011 NC game was supposed to motivate the team and they were going to be hungry and all that, I will never again believe that a bowl loss has any positive impact on the following year's LSU football team. If they didn't care about the damned game when they were playing in it, why in hell would they care after they lost it? Maybe being the first LSU coach since GAYNELL TINSLEY to lose to an ACC team will motivate Miles, but who knows?

Apples and Oranges!
Bama- Met had the hot hand and could not run vs gumps thus we run critical play
Clumson- Hill had hot feet and Met was off thus we pass critical play
This is where the frustration comes from and the "ream" from the fans you refer to, however remenber these guys get paid inordinate monies to make these decisions and comes with the territory at any level!
That said can't wait for Cam to correct these situations and offense will shine in 13!

Our record in those years? 45-8. I agree, a mixed bag.

Yes, unfortunately, it's only 32-7 when Miles was coaching the next year, and only 21-5 when Miles was coaching both years. Not bad if you want to be the consistent #2 or #3 team in the West and go the Peach or Cotton Bowl, I guess.

In hindsight, I think Vadal had a deal with the Clemson DE to split 1/2 his signing bonus and decided to make him into a 1st rounder.

Good read, thanks.

The good news is, it appears Les is painfully aware of their shortcomings and has addressed them in the offseason.
