So, with LSU shaping up to be a national championship contender it raises the possibility that Miles will get another pay raise for winning the big show.

In the past few years I have felt the money do a lot of talking in college football. Has the time come for a salary cap in the NCAA?

No more free parking.

Increase in ticket prices.

No - if he wins, I would give him an extension through the end of 2015, $2m bonus, give him a contract guaranteeing he is in the Top 3 coaches paid, and $whateveritakes to keep the current assistant coaching staff intact (as Miles sees fit) for at least 1 more year.

Salay caps are for professional leagues.

F' increasing ticket prices... The program already makes money hand over fist. It's gonna be soon that kuckle draggin toothless wonders that populate wal-mart at 2am won't be able to afford to come spend their $10 on nachos in Tiger Stadium.

You do realize his contract is extended to 2017 already?

And he has an escalator clause that if he wins the NC his salary automatically becomes $1k more than the highest paid coach, if I remember the terms correctly.

Salary caps are used by the professional leagues to ensure an even distribution of talent throughout the league. After a few more years of SEC dominance, you will see schools beginning to argue for changes that will seek to diminish the systemic recruiting advantages that the SEC schools have.

EXAMPLE: Allow schools to pay travel money for a players family to come watch them play, which would help schools not located in recruiting hotbeds to recruit.

The athletic department is self sufficient and besides a lot of the emoluments comes from boosters and other outside sources in the form of radio shows, endorsements for local businesses, speaking at events etc...

When Miles gets another NC in Jan 2012 - he should be locked in for at least six more years, by which time he would be 65 and ready to hand over the reigns to another coach.

I'm hoping you just threw this out there to get your post count up...right?

The SEC has the majority of the highest paid football coaches in the nation; why?

If history has taught us anything, you get what you pay for. If you find a diamond in the rough, you'll have to climb the pay-scale ladder or lose him.

This is a football conference and football attracts TV contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Don't worry about salary cost; the marketplace will determine value.

It would not surprise me if Les spread the wealth with his assistants.

Well, then maybe it doesn't need modification for him, then. I would still open up the wallet for the staff and start looking at the most pressing facility upgrade.

No. He is worth what someone is willing to pay him. That's a basic tenant of our society and how this country rose to prominence in the first place.

yes / no

I agree with the above from HIS perspective.

From LSU's....
(they need to adhere to business)
,.....every position has a "salary" range or "earnings" range...and it is as a % of revenues.
what that it for LSU I do not know, but once you allow talent to take you beyond that ceiling, you will start getting in trouble.

it is a very treacherous place, we can not buy anyone into not going into the NFL.
