Here is a few clips of plays I hope we can try to utilize again.

1. I can see this play working great with Beckham (see UK game run) and possibly Shep. Getting them two the ball in space is electric. PLus, with Landry and Wright being as physical as they are, good blocking possibilities. Not to mention a great HB draw to Blue or Ford can be set up with this pass.
ROHAN TO REED!

2. I know this play is pretty standard and I have no idea why we didn't try it more with Lee last year. WE have the speed at WR in Beckham and Mett has the arm to really bring this back, which will open up huge holes in the run game. Plus, this will really come in handy against teams who play right up on the WR like Bama and UGA. If we can at least show this a little bit, they will move Lester/Rambo to help out in the pass more than the run game.
D BYRD

3. I hate to keep harping on Beckham, but this really needs to make a comeback. Beckham is a very fluid WR. I know people bitched about it when Jimbo was here, but it was money a lot of the time.
BUBBLES

4. I don't know why we really abandoned this the last year and a half, but it worked great in 2009 multiple times.
SHEP
AND THIS
AND AGAIN
SERIOUSLY, WHY DID WE STOP DOING THIS?

5. With Mett being a lot more mobile and supposedly having a better pocket awareness than Lee/JJ,I can see the Play action similar to this working tremendously against the 3-4 defenses of bama and UGA. Need to do this A LOT to open it up for our run against the 3-4.
NOTICE THE DOWN AND DISTANCE

6. Running a circle route down the sideline with the WR is going to be huge since we have a QB with great deep ball accuracy now. (supposedly) I know it's painful to watch, but plays like this are bound to happen when your QB has the arm to hit the throw and your receivers have moves. (Beckham/shep/Landry)

Nice. I hear ya too. Why oh why? Most of us had coaches back in the day that once a play was successful, we'd run it till they stopped it. Great post.

Play action pass and bubble screens. I'm not asking for much I just want some down field passes to work like they use to. We have the wide receiving corps to through great blocks this year (no big headedness that thinks they are above blocking) so I want to see some screens and I want to see MF42 and AB4 behind o line in the bubble.

We don't need any cute plays or gimmicks this year. LSU's O line and running backs are on a level where you can run basic packages and not very many teams D will be able to stop it. we just need a cooperating quarter back who can put the ball in the hands of our skilled players and call the proper audible at the line.

ALL WE NEED IS BAISIC FOOTBALL RAN WITH DISCIPLINE AND NO ONE WILL STOP US.

#3!! I miss that little wide receiver screen. Bowe and Early had it down. We've run it a few time with Shep, but we need to bring it back

At one time, the forward pass was considered a gimmick.

Then the playaction was considered a gimmick.

Then the shotgun was considered a gimmick.

Get the drift here. We tried the line it up and run at you on 1/9. I'm not saying we need to abandon the run philosophy, but mixing in some of the plays above will help open it up for the run.

Things like playaction and going deep against Bama, bubble screens to Beckham, using shep as both a decoy and weapon out of the RB/Wildcat position.

Trick plays work great when set up. And there's nothing wrong with trick plays.

End around/wr pass from Shep. A la the McCluster pass that caught us with our pants down in 09. Particularly in the BAMA game. They'll never see it coming. Damnit, utilize the talents of your athletes!

The two things I don't understand why we stopped was the bubble screen and using Shep at the Wildcat.

The key to running the ball successful is how well Mett is able to throw deep off the playaction.

jamarcus was a beast at this.

Exactly. I'm not saying go full retard and only run tricks like Houston Nutt would do.

BUT, a WR end around a couple of times early in the season, a few runs form Shep out of the shotgun can set up a trick pass against a very aggressive D like Bama and UGA.

I say the talent and scheme of the offense is fine. It's the playcalling and creativity that's been lacking.

Hopefully Les can bring that back. he just hasn't trusted a QB since 08 to do it. And that also led to him only really liking to hand it off during the big games. (see bama and UGA)

Like last year. We would run a trick play agaisnt lower level teams, we would PA and go deep against WVU, but not once would we try it against the top talent like UGA and Bama.

QB talent has been severely lacking. One guy was streaky as frick and the other was terrible.

No doubt, but how hard is it to run a bubble screen as a QB?

And mainly, what happened to utilizing Shep as a weapon? And don't say we have Michael ford and Running backs to do that now. None of the current RBs have the acceleration and quick twitch movements shep has. Shep may not have top speed, but he can get through the hole with a quickness.

Lee would float them out there and Jefferson would 2-hop em.

This is my biggest gripe. I had forgotten all about how much we used him in the Wildcat his freshman year. He was a guaranteed 5 yard every time.

It's such a timing play, our QB's the last few years would hold it too long or make a bad throw causing the WR to stop momentum and the minute that happens the play blows up. Hopefully we can get it together, love that and the middle WR screen.

True.

But why did we stop running the deep fade with Lee and the PA deep pass out of the I against the elite teams? It's like we had a totally different offense for Bama and UGA.

To beat a good 3-4, you gotta hit 'em or at least try to hit 'em deep.

I think that was one of the most underrated parts of JR's game. Yet, people claim he had timing issues.

I'll be happy with the occasional forward pass.
