Looking st the parade of schools splashed all over this poll, my guess is two fold:
1. They were stretching to avoid ranking too many SEC teams too high.
2. Which required them to name as many "other" teams from "other" conferences as they could think of, for the sake of having assorted "fillers" between the real strong (SEC) teams on the list.

1. In today's college football, polls, especially pre-season polls, are irrelevant. Polls are a relic from 30 years ago. SEC standings and playoff committee rankings are all that truly matter.
2. We were a fraud in 2015. Our first 7 games were very weak and that's why we rose so high in the polls. When we played the meat of our schedule in November, we got torched 3 weeks in a row.
Polls don't matter. Just win, and at the end of the season it will all be clear.

I don't see how we can complain about this ranking at all. first of all, pre season rankings don't mean shite. is your ego bruised? that ranking will change IF AND WHEN WE DESERVE IT. that means winning football games. being at 12 with teams we play ahead of us is a great place to be. win and we make the playoffs.

If you gave me even odds on whether Orgeron would ever have a season better than 8-4, I would bet yes every time.

If we finish this season at #12 in the coaches and AP polls, it will be our highest finish since 2012 in the coaches and since 2011 in the AP. Absolutely no one has any reason to complain about LSU being ranked 12th, except maybe the teams ranked behind us.

Only if Saban decides to take the year off and go fishing. The talent gap between Alabama and everybody else is so wide and gaping that they would literally have to get the worst possible coaching for the race to be at all in doubt. If they have a close game in SEC play, then Saban will have done a poor job of getting the most out of his team's talent.

Exactly. I'm not disputing Etling made some bad throws, but all of the incompletes were not his fault. Chark dropped an easy one and more than a few times the receivers couldn't create any space with the DB's. The O-Line, at least twice, did not block their assignments and some defender barreled through.
I think they showed off some formations and some basic plays, but did not flash anything really. I am hoping that the report of Guice lining up in the slot is indicative of something we'll see in this season, maybe even doing motion, running the jet sweep, or using Guice to fake the jet sweep to keep the LB's and DB's from pressing up to much.
