Why didn't they design the "tower" to match the exterior of the new expansion?

What do you mean? It's concrete and glass.

Well, it just seems that the elevator tower could've been designed to take on the same look as the exterior of the expansion with arched windows and stuff. I'm not complaining because I think the whole thing is incredible...anxious to see the finished product...

I'm honestly convinced if LSU execs flew over Tiger Stadium during half time and dropped bags of cash to every single person in the place, there would be a 20 page thread here of people bitching that it wasn't enough money or the bag they used made their hand itchy or some stupid shite.

I agree, but my one complaint is the west side. Why no arches or anything to look like the rest of the stadium? I hate that

the west side truly is bad. maybe one day they do something to make it at least look respectable.

If they were going to do something to the west, they may as well do the same thing to the east side as well.

At this point, the smart thing to do is put up a facade on both the east and west sides to match either the north end zone or the south.

IMHO, it would make the most sense to carry the look of the new SEZ expansion northward.

Edit:" here's what I mean by a "facade"...

...basically, this would just be a thin layer of precast brick made to look like the SEZ exterior.

I've never been on the woe is the west side bandwagon. I've always thought it could be worse but its just breaks character from the rest of the stadium.

Everywhere else, they've made a point of no brick. Just the concrete behemoth look. So why go with tanish brick on the west side?. I've always thought maybe a darker contrasting concrete would look good. And lose the sunshades of course.

I look at it this way, how many 100,000+ "original" stadiums with consistent design all the way around and up and down still exist?
To my knowledge, only two: The Rose Bowl and Michigan Stadium. MAYBE the Coliseum.

But DV is not the only college stadium (or any stadium FTM) that has been added on to and renovated numerous times and is not really a uniform design.

Beaver - Penn State - No. It's hideous
Ohio Stadium - No.It's a horseshoe (albeit nice)
Neyland - No. It's an erector set.
Alabama - No. It's a toilet. (Although the upper decks are pretty consistent.)
Texas - No.
A&M - Please
Florida - No
Georgia - No, but looks nice aesthetically
South Carolina - No, but ditto.
Oregon - too small
Notre Dame - No, but does look alright.

If you carried the look forward from the SEZ, it wouldn't be hidden. It would be highly visible across the campus, and even across the lakes.

Imagine seeing those arches rising above the treeline...with lit-up letters proclaiming "LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERISTY" above them.

Talk about an iconic look.

Is there even room on the east side to do anything? Even if there were, most of it is covered up by buildings sitting so close to it. I do agree that the East is the worst looking side but its also the least visible

Again, we would just be talking about a facade, similar to this at UCF's Brighthouse Network Stadium:

And the east side isn't as invisible as people like to think...

i mean that shot is from a helicopter.

For the most part wherever you are on campus the most you can see is the upper deck itself.

Yeah thats pretty bad. I guess most of it could be cleaned up with some sort of facade.

its a bland facade but i still think its better than the west.

because they actually TRIED on the west side and failed miserably.

Here's another high-angle pic:

I get what you're saying, I just don't see the point of half-assing it. If the west side is going to get a new look, I'd prefer to match that same look to the east as well. All I'm saying.

And imagine these same kind of lit-up arches with lettering above them rising above the trees on the east side of the stadium...

Think about how these same pics would look with a facade featuring arches.

but its also a shot of two iconic structures on LSU's campus with the tower and Tiger Stadium with the river in the background. It's a pretty unique shot and that's not exactly the most flattering side of TS.

That said, I'd say theres more pressing needs but an east side spruce up should be somewhere down the list.
