Construction could begin as soon as September for a late 2010 opening, said Emmett David, LSU’s facility development director, assuming anticipated state budget cuts do not impact the project.

the complex will include...an “iconic” observation tower that could complement LSU’s Memorial Tower.

This is getting to be a habit. We have the tower on Mike's habitat and now this. Unless there's a practical purpose for it, I say leave it out of the design.

The tower will overlook the outdoor practice area, and the directors can do their thing from there instead of from a lift arm or an external fabricated structure. So yes, in this case, the structure serves a purpose.

I like how LSU is making all of these new additions and cosmetic upgrades to the campus, but why am I left with 7 dollars in printing fees after printing notes and syllabi for my classes because school will not allow teachers to print for their students as a result of budget constraints. Not that the money is a big deal, but it is the principle of the matter. Also, why don't they renovate the old field house or the french house? These are two eye sores that, if fixed, could turn LSU into an even more beautiful campus than it already is.

the french house doesnt look that bad. i'd say its way down the list of things on campus that need to be renovated. they should start with middleton.

Umm...that is where they are building this complex. By the way, to avoid some confusion some people may have, this is not an indoor practice field. It is essentially a sit-down music rehearsal hall for the tigerband and wind ensembles (along with storage/office/practice rooms). They will still have marching practice on an outdoor field located just outside the building.

By the way, they said the main rehearsal hall will be almost 20,000 square feet. Wow!! That is essentially the size of half a football field (150' x 150').

How about they renovate all of the dorms and finish all of the dining halls to while they're at it.

It is a nice looking facility though.
