Many on here, myself included, thought LSU could use it's name and throw money at any football coach we wanted and look how that turned out.

LSU is in no way known as a basketball program, and I'm confident we cannot just grab some top flight coach by throwing a big check at them. If we are going to get a quality program building coach, it will have to be a younger guy who is going to use us as a stepping stone.

Yes it will.
Not confident we will step up.
But money is actually a factor in hiring quality coaches.

First of all one of the main reasons we didn't get a top flight football coach is because we didn't want to spend the kind of money it takes to get one. And you don't need to worry about us doing it in basketball we won't offer any big name coach and we def won't spend any money. I'm not even convinced we are going to fire Jones.

Of course you do, just like everybody on here liked Les Miles every offseason... then the season started.

You're a dumbass if you don't think money will bring a high valued(proven) coach here right now.

Money talks.

So you think that NOT throwing money will get us a coach?

Newsflash:
You generally get what you pay for.

Can LSU overpay the next coach? Sure if Alleva hires the wrong guy. (Likely)

Fact: LSU won't get a "right" coach without paying substantively more than than is being paid to CJJ.

We should at least have a coach that can qualify us to the NCAA tournament every year.....lose in first round or second...ok. Let's face it we are a football and baseball school.

I mean Lord.....if we can't get into a 65 team tournament....than kill the damn program !!!

Alleva threw some big money at Jimbo after the 2015 season and an agreement in principal was reached, but "Destroyer Comet FKA 1" interceded and nixed the entire package, with help from Jindal's support of Miles. Folks, we coulda-woulda-shoulda had Fisher, but these two stepped in and destroyed the deal.

Now, fast forward to 2016 and you can blame Snow Peas on the football HC hiring debacle.

Fisher priced himself out early on and Alleva didn't have the Marketing or Negotiation skills necessary to haul in Herman, so instead of opening it up and interviewing other interested HC'ing candidates, he just "Settled" on Orgeron. Thank God for Aranda and Canada.

Now back to Basketball. No doubt that JA's well known Modus Operandi will yield the same results, even if LSU decides to throw a few $$$$$ at any interested HC. There's no reason or evidence to support that he'll get it right this time. The only hope would be if TAF's or LSU Power Brokers step-in and take over the search and hire process................

Yes, he was one of only a few that were making 1+, and the rest were all NC winners. LSU was actually mocked for throwing that much money around.

Not now, but there was a time not that long ago when LSU had one of the longest streaks in the country of making the tourney. We've also produced some of the best college players ever, including three NBA HOF'ers.

Much like a program like Florida, LSU doesn't HAVE TO BE only a football school. We're fortunate in that our location and schools in our general area make us a football school almost be default, but we have the resources and name recognition to go out and hire the right coach who could change our basketball fortunes within a season or two.

There is no reason, at all, LSU can;t perform at NCAA Tourney level each and every year. In fact, not doing so would seem to tak a certain level of not giving a frick that seems hard to imagine given our history and resources.

It's time we stop pretending this is a walk OR chew gum situation we're in.
