I know that a lot of people on here hate the whole "Battle for the Boot" thing because it pretty much sprung up out of nowhere. But, I am personally excited for it. First off, Arkansas seems to always play us tough. They also seem to be on a rise with petrino and what Mallett was able to do last year and is expected to do this year. I think if Arkansas continues to improve it could turn into a prominent rivalry that's known well throughout the country. Does anyone agree with this?

I agree with you. Arkansas use to be an easy win and now they are just getting tougher ever year. The coaching staff has done great things with that program.

It had a chance with it's novelty Friday after Thanksgiving time slot. Now that the SEC squashed that and put THEIR favorite rivalry in that slot, it will be just another game.

Good point. I'm just saying I love the fact that the media seems to try to make it a big deal, while a lot of people on here seem to hate it which I don't understand. It just adds national attention to LSU and maybe after a few more years it will become a legit rivalry game and make the season that much more interesting. I surely hope it evolves into a heated rivalry, because one thing I do know is last year was one damn exciting game. And this year looks like it will be an even tougher task in Arkansas. Here's to hoping the Tigers can pull off another win.

We can barely hang even with them now. If they get any better, it won't become a prominent rivalry because it won't be competitive.

I just don't view Arkansas as a rival. Having grown up in an LSU home where Ole Miss was both despised and regaled I would like to see this game take on added rivalry importance again.

Nah man. We won last year, and if they don't convert a last second TD pass the year before, we win there two. We have way more talent than them on both sides of the ball. The only reason they have been so scary the last two years is because of our weak QB play. Once we get through this little QB stint will be right back on track. And, if they don't continue to get better, they will be the ones being left in the rearview. Keep the faith bro.

I like the rivalry.

For a while though it hasn't been relevant b/c we've kicked the shite out of Arkansas. But for the last couple of years and maybe this one, it's too close for comfort.

Irrelevant, even if true.

You mean this little six-year stint of not recruiting and developing even one quarterback? With at least two more years of JJ and JL, followed by, at best, a RS sophomore Zach Lee putting in part time to work around playing baseball? That little stint?

In this coaching staff, no way.

There have been very few easy wins in the series since Arkansas joined the SEC.

I don't get why people either don't care or don't want this to be a rivalry. The more the better because rivalry = emotion and lord knows we've been running short of that not only on the field but in the stands as well.

I HATED that game being a day game on that friday.

I live in North La and still don't feel one way or the other about the hogs other than I really hate that game lately. I don't see it becoming that big of a rivalry if I can't even direct my hate at the team and not the time slot. The Hogs are definitely getting better and I wouldn't be amazed if they beat us again this year or any year and I guess that's a base for a rivalry but it's gonna take some kind of injustice to inspire the kind of hate I feel for Ole Miss or Alabama. Gonna have to be a 'moment' that burns it into my brain.

the players seem to get excited about playing for the boot, but lsu fans are too cool to get behind that trophy and call it a rivalry.

Arkansas is not a rival. I am glad that we play the game each year and that it is on national television. Since the game has been moved (I dont know who to blame for this but they fricked up), there is far less to play for than there was as many more people watch Friday games.
As for the season, this is an important game for us as we ready for Bowl Season and hopefully the SECCG.

This is also a good chance for Les to see what a college quarterback looks like...Arkansas seems to always have one and we dont!

If Petrino and Les stay put, it wont be much of a rivalry since LSU will lose most of the time.

Wish the game rotated between Fayetteville and Tiger Stadium only. That's the next step for this game.

Are you fricking kidding???

This is NEVER going to be a nationally relevant rivalry.

Also, our historical rivals are the University of Alabama and the University of Mississippi. Arkansas only recently joined the SEC, and the rivalry was only created to make Arkansas fans forget about their long rivalry with the University of Texas.

Did you just start following college football?!?

Arkansas HAS NEVER EVER been known for having good quarterbacks. Ryan Mallet is an anomaly and Matt Jones was a glorified option quarterback.
