So, it's ok to only support them when they are not getting hammered? But crap all over them when they are getting hammered?

maybe people don't go to the games to "support" the players, maybe they just want to have fun

there were 100,000 plus in the stands to watch a 3-8 Michigan team lose to Northwestern in 10 degree weather.

And look where that's gotten them. Same for Nebraska. Why don't you go be a "fan" of one of those teams?

You know what I ammmmm soooo sick of these people saying that the people who left were fair weathered fans or not even fans at all. What the F____ ever. I was at the game and Yes I did leave early which is something I never ever do. I had my mom with me and my two kids. Between their griping about the cold and the way the tigers had been playing I had had enough. You don't realize because most of you griping were probably not even at the game that a good majority of people had brought there kids to this game. So the fact that their kids were miserable the team was playing miserably lead to the fact that a lot of people left.

Don't call me a fair weathered fan when you have no idea. I went to a Vandy game a few years back and I was pregnant at the time. I had two weeks left and sat through pouring ran to cheer on my tigers. I have sat through wind, rain and cold weather. I have sat through many long seasons and never left once. So quit beating a dead horse because if you weren't at the game you have no idea what you are talking about.

Wait just a doggone minute there Woody. Are you actually going on record saying that diehard fans of two major, and I'm talking Top 5/Top 8 all time elite college football programs are doing something wrong? Check yourself.... what you "leave early" guys are doing is somewhat admirable from my perspective - defending the indefensible.

You are quite literally and figuratively a fair weather fan. Methinks you doth protest too much. And no, I didn't go to the game. I'm in Iraq.

Dumb post.

And, by the way, I watched the game on pay-per-view. The first half was the worst I have ever seen an lsu team play, EVER. I am including the curly hallman days and the late Dinardo days.

They could not do ANYTHING on offense or defense. I just was amazed this was a National Championship Team.

My point is: I dont fault the people that left, the first half was horribly played. The people who stayed, were drunk, bored, or just enjoying the cirlces they were in. They certainly did not stay to see "quality" football played by LSU.

The Second half looked more like LSU. Big school depth, usually beats small school spirit.

REPOST:

Listen, I understand that within every crowd there will be a small subset of fans who really, legitimately need to leave early. No problem with those fans at all.

However, it strains common sense to argue that, coincidentally, on the night of November 15, 2008, 65,000 LSU fans simultaneously had (a) a job crisis; (b) a dying grandma; (c) a child who suddenly developed West Nile virus; (d) a religious epiphany that required them to immediately report to the nearest convent and/or abbey; (e) a call from the President requesting that they depart at 0900 hours for a covert operation in Afghanistan; (f) appendicitis; or (g) a pregnant wife who was giving birth.

The vast majority of those 65,000 fans are just indolent and lazy. That's the truth. The Tigers had lost the game to Alabama and so they were out of contention for the SEC championship. They didn't play well in the first half against Troy. And it was cold. So a bunch of lazy LSU fans decided that they would rather go home, sit in their easy chairs, shovel some Doritos into their mouths, pass gas, and go to bed early so that they could wake up bright and early the next morning...for some more lounging on the sofa.

It doesn't make them horrendous people, it just makes them lazy fans. How bad is it that the fanbase can't muster the energy to sit in one place for three hours, endure a mild chill, and yell? It's not like the fans are asked to run wind sprints or wage a war in Siberia. All they have to do is SIT and WATCH and occasionally YELL.

BTW, this isn't merely an issue that affects the LSU fan base. Sports fans (and humans) in general have become intolerably lazy. That's why we have a country full of obese pigs.

Actually, if you read the Advocate, one of the players said that the fans leaving early woke the LSU team up. Just saying...

Thanks for the picture. I can see myself sitting in the North endzone. I am the only mother fricker, in that empty stadium, signaling a touchdown!!

You can make the fans out to be terrible but we all know the Troy game was a "bring the kids game". I said this on the way into town and the crowd bore this out. No less than 10 people around me left with young kids while we were getting our asses handed to us. Their kids were miserable and the parents weren't all that happy either. I wonder how many kids under 13 attended that game?

You seem to not be able to make the connection between poor play, and (lack of) fan support. Your post sounds very intelligent so I assume you are just being snarky. Fans don't sit in the stands "and yell", when their team is sucking balls. There's nothing to "yell" for. Are we supposed to yell in appreciation when the team is out there flopping around against a Sunbelt team? I'm not sure I get your point.

Glad I wasn't the only one who saw that. I bought the game on PPV from DirecTV and thought I had wasted my money. But like a TRUE Tiger fan, I endured and witnessed a truly remarkable comeback. The TV announcers for Tigervision didn't even catch it.

First, you assume that I'm a "leave early" guy, which I never said I was, but that doesn't matter either way.

What I'm saying is that all these people are getting all over people for not showing up or leaving early, pretending that the team would play better if the stadium was full and loud for every game. Obviously, that is not the case.

I know where Nebraska and Michigan stand in the cfb history bookds, don't lecture me.
