I think it's really a shamed that he has to come back to LSU next season. This kid has millions waiting for him at the next level and he is NFL ready now. Don't get me wrong here, I love watching him in purple and gold. However, he is one play away from losing millions. Just doesn't make sense to me.

He's a freak. A rare case that doesn't exist very often at all. What can you do about the rule?

I hope you mean "a shame" instead of ashamed..... I think they should have to stay at least 4 years! LSU would have many more NC's if that was required.

So you would prefer it to be like basketball where good players leave after one year? How could any football team have any consistency if this were the case?

But the majority of players arent NFL ready. Since you cant make a rule and have exceptions based on perceived NFL readiness it would have to be a universal rule to all. Then you would have way too many players leaving school way too early and ruining both the college game and their careers.

Before ppl say but baseball and basketball forget it. Totally different animals. 99.9% of athletes need at least 3 years of a college strength and conditioning program to even be anywhere near NFL ready.

Marcus Lattimore got drafted in the 4th round with shredded knees. Yes he had to retire last year, but a team still took a chance on him.

Fournette loves this game, and he seems to love playing for LSU.

For every sure thing like Leonard there are 100 players on the cusp. The NFL wants these college years so they can evaluate and make the best informed decision before flinging millions on an unproven player.

FYI, Fournette is pursuing a degree that he plans to obtain in THREE years, not four. That would make his "Senior Day" come early. He should be graduating (or close to it) by the time he enters the draft.

You're getting down voted to hell, but you are correct. It is a damn corrupt system that prevents young men from making a living at the one truly marketable skill that they will ever have.

There is far too much money for the NCAA and large universities for them to ever voluntarily change the collusion agreement with the NFL and the NFLPA. Basically, the young men who play the game at the collegiate level don't have the political strength to fight the system. It will probably take a dozen more Ed O'Bannon's to fight the system before things will truly change.

Instead oftaxpayer-funded state institutions of higher learning masquerading as semi-pro sports organizations, maybe the billionaire-owners of the NFL should pay for their own farm league system.

Yes, Shaq had a policy. But then again, so did Ciron Black but they denied his claim.

I was about to go to the gym and work out, but then I realized I could be killed in a car crash. I'm going to stay home. Thanks a lot, fricking Debbie Downer.

I will quote my own standard answer on this topic...

quote:

Fournette is a freak. For every Fournette, there will be 100 that are not mentally or physically ready for the NFL that think they are. They will fail miserably and lose their college eligibility in the process.

Hell there are tons that come out too early NOW that fail because they aren't physically or mentally ready.

College is still mostly a bunch of big kids playing football. The NFL is full of grown MEN who are playing for their livelihood.

I know what you're saying but hopefully he just enjoys the process. I know we will. He represents LSU very well and is a great face for the program.
