Who else could match up with Oregon and BAMA this year? OK, who could match up with BOTH?

These guys destroy everyone else they play in a polar opposite manner. We beat them both.

Very few teams could beat either, let alone both.

We changed our D accordingly, and our O accordingly.
We match speed with speed, and can match size when needed. Take away the pass, we run. Take away the run, we CAN pass. Throw in some nasty special teams with returns, forced fumbles,a 70 yd. puntamidst others inside the 10 yard line, blocked kicks, etc. and you have a formidable opponent in this LSU team.
I am ready for the final stretch. Carpe Diem!

It's our hybrid defense. Fast enough to stop a speed offense, and strong enough to stop a power offense.

I knew before the season how it would go when moffitt said this was his strongest team ever and chavis said the fastest defense ever!

The spread defense. I like to think we have hybrid players. Kind of like a cross between what saban would recruit and what Meyer would recruit

Chavis is not getting enough praise, imho, but is ability to put together this "chameleon" defense. I think we all figured out he knew enough about x's and o's to be successful in the big boy league, but the physical attributes of the guy's he's recruited is uncommonly good.

Take the Alabama game for example. EVERYONE, me included, belived Bama's linebackers were much better than ours. Going into the game, I was very worried that our undersized linebackers would have trouble w/TR.

Bottom line - while Richadson was, inho, the best player on the field, our "undersized" linebackers did their part of keeping him contained.

On the other side of the ball, Alabama's huge LB's apparently had trouble running sideways on the field to cover the option, as Ford ran in successfully many times. There's no "scheming" per se to stop an option play. You just gotta be at the right place quicker. Alabama's linebackers couldn't apparently do that.

And for the Bama fans, , we outrushed y'all. Not by a yard or two either. We clearly were a better running team, and clearly had players that could do a better job in stopping the run.

Before the Oregon game, I recall a Moffit tweet to this effect:

The hay is in the barn.

These guys have been bringin it since day one, and besided the versatility, they are also deep.
I could see them running the table at this point.

I really agree with everything else you wrote - and maybe this is splitting hairs - but our linebackers didn't cover Richardson on pass plays. They blew numerous assignments on passes. It was not like they were physically beat, just 20 yards out of position.

Hell yeah! If I was 100 lbs larger this would make me want to run out on the field and hit someone.

Better call than those Sports Illustrated "looking into the crystal ball" guys in another thread.

puntamidst

How many of these do you think we'll need to get through the year unscathed?

1.4 puntamidsts per game oughta do it, much of which depends on the sheer degree of happenstance involved.

Prior to the season, it was hard for me to believe that we could go through this season undefeated (Oregon, WV, Bama, etc...). After the performance thus far, I am excited at the very real possibility. Very special year for sure!
